Guest guest
Howdy Liz, Hi Butch > Some real food-for-thought here, thank you for opening up the real > issues and implications of being too liberal with terminology when > talking AT. > Welcome you are for sure .. but I think the issues and implications I presented are not sufficient to convince a good number of very confused people and a larger number who either don't know what to think or just don't give a crap. This News Groups has 134 members .. only 13 have posted to the Poll .. 7 say they think Sweet Peas are AT and 6 say they don't think so. I gave this a lot of thought and I have come to a conclusion that continuing to write on this group about Essential Oils and Aromatherapy might a waste of my time .. and a waste of the reader's time because we are not speaking the same language. To avoid hurting any feelings I will avoid expressing my REAL opinion of the language they are speaking .. I'll just say that all of this " creativity " is a bit too far out in left field for me and I can't imagine how I could add anything credible to a discussion of the REALITIES of use of Essential Oils vs all the spiritual humma humma folks have dreamed up if we are speaking different languages. I also wonder if all the folks who have expressed an opinion truly believe what they are writing .. I suspect that Martin does not .. if he has he obviously does not realize the potential harm he has caused by taking such a contrary position when writing to a group that I believe is not as knowledgeable about AT as most other groups to begin with. Martin is respected in this field and folks who are respected have an obligation to choose their words carefully when they write or speak because their words influence people .. and in this case I firmly believe that he has done exactly what he has criticized many other folks for doing during all the years I have known him .. that is putting out unproven information and calling it fact when it is really misinformation! Its not like we have a shortage of misinformation in AT! I also believe that those who are willing to accept that sniffing flowers or bourbon or horse dung should be interpreted to be AT are not really into AT ... at least not into the AT that it is generally accepted as a reality today and the AT I have worked for years to try to legitimize. If they don't believe what they are writing and are just doing so to be free spirits then I am even more convinced that AT is not important to them. I believe they need to go back to the school house and look at what AT is all about .. examine the differences between the usually unproven psychological and emotional effects of use of Essential Oils in AT vs the proven physiological effects. They need to sit quietly and THINK instead of throwing out opinions based on fantasy! Folks claim that they want different opinions .. my opinion is that different opinions on issues that should not be based on opinion do nothing but confuse and create chaos. I believe that this entire discussion has not been beneficial to anyone .. it has confused a lot of new folks and has done nothing to legitimize this alternative-complemtary healing modality! Folks want truth .. they say .. and that is my truth! > My first reaction when this question came up was Yes! of course > flowers are AT! But then I'm feeling summer happy as Manchester has > had at least 3 days sunshine with No Rain. The horses are out in the > field tonight for the first time since last August - and I'm > mucking-out-free!! Woo-Hoo!! Though a well rotted muck heap smells a > lot like perfume to me, I'm glad to be free of shifting that equine > excrement at last :-) > When I was a young man .. if I was happy or between my 1st and 2nd drink .. the world was beautiful .. everybody is my friend .. and like most folks I was willing to agree on things that I knew were not really correct .. but as I matured I began to realize that if one chose to live in fantasy they had to shed reality .. and discipline .. and they had very little to offer to anyone who was also living in fantasy. > Coming back to your post, you made me realise I'm a bit of a hypocrite > because I'm right up the front line shouting against the Glades, dog > shampoos - and all -being called AT. And there I was doing (almost) > the same thing..... > Seeing that (in my opinion) Martin is coming across as being a hypocrite .. I figure it might have something to do with the weather in the UK. ;-) > Fragrant flowers do have their own special place - those narcissus in > the field are really wonderful - but you are 100% right, they are not > AT, and extending the word AT to accommodate them is wrong. > Thank you ma'am for that dose of reality! > We DO to be consistent in how we use the word Aromatherapy, because > if we aren't, we cant complain when others step in and pinch it. > Correct! And I believe that the people who claim otherwise have given too little thought to the ramifications of their shoot-ready-aim postings! > Thank you for the eye opener and wake up call :-) > LLx > Welcome you are and I thank you .. but unfortunately, I believe too many folks have overslept! I need this industry like I need hemorrhoids or Ebola .. selling EO is not my source of income .. its probably the least important thing I have ever done in my entire life and I don't plan to continue to sell them for all that much longer .. but I have busted my butt for close to 14 years to bring some reality and discipline and integrity to this route step cottage industry and though I beleive that the opinions expressed on this group are not shared by 90% of the folks in the industry .. and probably not by 99% of the professionals in the industry .. those opinions have caused a lot of potrential harm to the future of AT. Odds are that half of the 121 other folks on this list who have not elected to vote or express an opinion are not even active now .. that is the case on most News Groups .. but assuming that the 60 or so that are still active have not expressed an opinion I have to assume that many of them are novices who are still absorbing info and trying to figure out what it is all about and if that is the case then II believe these discussions have been a disservice to those folks. I hope that the majority of them are not novices .. that maybe they just thought the discussion was so ridiculous that they didn't want to participate. Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch .. http://www.AV-AT.com <http://www.av-at.com/> > > > If we don't demand some discipline in the field of Aromatherapy we must > > accept that synthetic fragrances sold by Glade and other companies .. the > > plug ins, etc., are a legitimate form of Aromatherapy. > > > > This is where I draw the line I can't cross and its the point I have > tried > > to sell in my previous posts.
