Hi,

I know that HTN members can get liability insurance throught their web-site,

hosted by Donna Maria, only thing is it's 100 dollars a year to join it. Just

a thought... one I've been also tossing around - good luck :)

Hugs,

That is wonderful! This is exactly the type of benefit a Trade

Association should provide for their members. I might be mistaken,

but I thought that NAHA was getting involved in that effort as well?

I've heard that before, but it usually turns out that the business is

covered; as in the assets of the home based business...the computers,

supplies, etc...but that is NOT the same as " product liability "

insurance. Many people who think they have one, find out to their

dismay they have only the other. You need BOTH if you are in

business selling to the public.

Dear Sue,

I am also a member of NAHA and I received something in the mail the

other day about being able to purchase liability insurance. However, there

was a catch. You would be covered only for the product that you sold the

client in your home while they were receiving a session and you would also

be covered if the client decided to sue you for whatever reason. That

leaves me and a lot of other people out of the liability purchase. I grow,

make, and sell my products to whomever wishes to purchase them. I believe

what I have just written is correct but I am also going to check it out to

be sure. In the meantime I wanted you to have some type of answer to your

question.

Good luck in your search and please share the results with the rest of

us because we are all looking and in the same position as you.

I see Auto and Homeowners, Home Business Insurance, but I don't see

anything about Product Liability Insurance. Are you sure they have a

policy covering " products " you manufacture [i.e. soap, cosmetics,

candles]?

http://aarp.thehartford.com/homebusiness/index.html

From the RLI site; Product Liability Insurance is a specialized

business liability insurance against negligence resulting in injury

from a product manufactured or sold by the insured.

Yes I am sure. I have a one million dollar policy, for product liability. it

covers loss, damage at the farmer market, and a number of other things. The best

thing I like about it . It gives you payment options from all up front or a

schedule of 2 payments, three payments 6 or even monmthly. It was under $350.00

for the total

the customer service phone number is 1-800-423-6789 you do have to join or be a

member of AARP

good luck

I knew I heard something about them getting some kind of policy...sorry

it isn't the type manufacturers need. I'm actually not looking for

insurance, I used to provide the RLI information to the Soap Guild

Members back when they did cover the smaller soapmaker " in-home "

business customer...back when I worked for them. I'm just thrilled some

other organization stepped in to fill the niche!

I was aware that the President of the Soap Guild and Donna Maria from

Handmade Beauty and Traci from the Botanical Elements Trade

Association* were going to put their heads together about this issue

when they met at the Soap Bee. I'm glad progress is being made...that

will really have a positive impact on the credibility of the

handcrafted manufacturer!

*Traci bought the Botanical Elements Trade Association from me and I

learned a few days ago BETA is no longer in business.

Call an insurance rep that offers The Hartford. You really don't know what they

can do for their home owner, business insurance rider policy until you talk to

one. :)

In my case, the would cover the in home candle making and not the cosmetics. I

had to have it " specially " underwritten and there was a process to go through.

That included writing out my whole candle making procedures from purchasing

supplies through the making of them.

I looked in to this a few months back.

The only policy that I could find was in the range of 4,000 US$ per year. It

is a policy offered through The Hartford and I'm guessing that there are

numerous agents that can sell that product any time.

Hi all. I have been using aromatherapy for my family and friends and

am thinking of making and selling a few blends. However, I guess I need

to get product liability insurance? Does anyone have any advice as to

carriers or necessity for it? Thanks for any help.

Best thoughts,
