Guest guest
Ok, here's what I've got in my aromalamp tonight to set the background while I introduce my roommate to Arrested Development. Haha! 4 drops Rhododendron (Rhododendron anthropogon) 1 drop Spikenard (Nardostachys jatamansi) 4 drops Buddah Wood (Eremophillia mitchelli) 8 drops Bergamot (Citrus bergamia) Ta, Stacey
Guest guest
Hi Stacey, Rhododendron? Now I know that I am not the only one who is going to want to know what that smells like. Anyone got a scent profile on that? Thanks, Christina

Thankfully I put the Rhododendron aside when I made the blend now that all my oils are in a basket with no identification on top telling me what they are. Anyhow, right offhand, I'd say it has a Jolly Rancher candy note with a spicy overtone. Think Spikenard and Cape Chamomile combined, with an absolutely pleasant scent. Here's what I have from Tony Burfield's 'Natural Aromatic Materials- Odours & Origins': " Rhododendron anthropogon D. Don. (Fam. Ericaceae) Anthropogon oil Nepal Rhododendron oil The Rhododendron genus is composed of large-leaved and generally large-flowered species, common in the Himalayas and China. The plant is considered edible in Nepal. Oil is produced by steam distillation to a very pale yellow oil with a floral heady and ylang-type top note that is honeyed and slightly spicy. The dry-down: floral, honeyed and resinous. The essential oil from 22 Rhododendron cultivars was analysed by Godefoot et al. (1981) who found that non-terpenoid compounds dominated the profiles. Aromagrams indicate that benzyl salicylate, benzyl benzoate, ethyl salicylate, geraniol and b-phenylethyl alcohol are important contributors to the odours.
