Guest guest
Please download and read the latest Cropwatch file on threatened species. It gives exact information on the current status of threatened species used in essential oil production. http://www.cropwatch.org/ Most aromatherapy suppliers are sucked in by the lIes of the bigger distributors and continue to supply these oils despite the clear evidence they should no longer be used. There are other aromatherapy distributors who just do not care about such issues, particularly the vast amounts of deforestation going on which contributes to climate change. In the case of most of the tree species under threat, we can manage without them. The fault is ultimately with those who purchase such products. If you do not buy them they will stop supplying them. Guest guest
Martin, Thanks for posting! I'm really surprised to see Hedychium coronarium (White Butterfly Ginger aka Awapuhi) on the list. It's considered an invasive non native species on many of the islands in Hawai'i. It has tough roots an thrives in the moist climate. They would love to wipe it out, but have even given up on trying. Interesting how it's being threatened out of it's native area, yet taking over else ware. http://www.state.hi.us/dlnr/dofaw/hortweeds/species/hedcor.htm It does have a wonderful scent, which is why I have a nice plant growing in my window garden. I'm looking forward to the day it flowers. Thanks for keeping us current on the threatened and endangered plants. We should remember that we can't really heal ourselves, but harming the planet. Warm Regards, David Roman Daniels
