Guest guest
Hi all, I want to send a quick " Hello " to our newest members, and welcome everyone back to a great 2008. Feel free to ask questions, and check out the page, to get aquainted with some of the resources we have to offer. A topic that arose a lot last year was synthetic fragrance. We have people here who wouldn't touch a synthetic, some who only have them around in the form of fine perfume, and others who use them in their products. We have a poll set up, and I encourage everyone to ring in. There is a follow-up poll, too, for those die-hard " I'd never use any synth " peeps. So where is bar for you? If you are a soaper, do you use mostly synth? What about in other products you make? There are some very convincing products out there. Does the quality of the synthetic matter? For those of you who use fragrances, how does it affect your bottom line? There really are some grey areas, here. I have tried to avoid synthetics for a long time now. While dealing with a family member's cancer, I was resigned to the fact that Jergen's lotion had a smell she found comforting. It wasn't natural, but it helped her feel better, so I reached for it whenever I was over. Cheers, Christina
Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I would also like to welcome our new members and look forward to hearing from you all. We have members from all over the globe, our moderators Christina and Stacey are from USA , Liz is from England and I am from New Zealand, so we are able to share aromatic news from all over! We are in the throes of summer here, although it has been raining and is very humid. But, all the summer fruit is in, it is so wonderful to see fresh strawberries, blueberries and all the stone fruit in the stores. I think the smell of fresh strawberries means sunny weather, and all the synthetic strawberry flavours that abound in items varying from strawberry jam to lip balms etc just miss out on that special feeling I get when I put a sweet strawberry in my mouth, smell that summery aroma and bite into bliss!. The joy of burying your face in a beautiful rose cannot be replicated by a squirt of Johnson’s Rose Baby Oil, and when you smell a good bottle of rose oil you fully appreciate natural aromas, and can smell the sunshine. When I started out studying aromatherapy many moons ago, I was told by my teacher that I would get to the stage that I would find synthetic perfumes not as pleasant as I had. I thought that nothing would make me give up my bottle of Arpege……..but now just a drop of Mogra and I am ready to go. I also get very overwhelmed at parties where ladies have doused themselves in their perfumes that sit on their dressers in the sun., and being on a bus first thing in the morning is challenging with the clash of deodorants, perfumes and aftershaves! I am really interested in this discussion and look forward to hearing frm you all.
