Guest guest
Hi Liz I had already signed up for this. I'm going to write about Cropwatch and Slow Food, two organizations I'm involved with on the quest to try to save some of the aromatic and foodstuff beauties of this planet. Guest guest
Fine, but how many on these groups still use Rosewood oil? I have been banging away on the environmental issues over the use of those trees for years. Fragrance users in general and suppliers in particular, have by and large just buried their head in the sand or come out with every kind of hogwash they can think of so they can continue selling this oil and others from endangered species. Less tree cover equals more CO2 in the atmosphere, higher temperatures equal more fires and instability in weather systems. California is nothing to what is coming. Now even the oceans are not soaking up CO2 like they used to, human pollution I wonder? Martin Watt http://www.aromamedical.com ATFE2 , Liz <liztams wrote: > > Will it do any good? Guest guest
Not quite AT, but along the lines of what Martin posted. I just watched a BBC documentary screened our TV last night regarding the plight of Apes - I just couldn't believe the total land destruction that Indonesia has done around the Congo, in the so called clearing to make way for Palm oil plantations. Clearing, burning, cutting and then leaving the land. No plantations going up. The programme showed an orphanage for orangutang(SP?) babies whose mothers had been burned to death (alive) in the clearing, or hacked to pieces beceasue they are considered pests......awful....... I use(d) palm oil in my soaps. This programme (which wasn't specifically about the palm plantations as such), put me right off. I'll certainly use a substitute fat. Guest guest
Hi Fiona, About a year ago there was a programme on Discovery Channel about how Greenpeace were going up the Amazon and its tributaries checking out how overseas consortiums were burning off the jungle to plant palm oil plantations. Their members were being shot at and harassed as they tried to film the workers. it sure made for scary viewing. Still it is heartening to know that Greenpeace is passionate about bringing this sort of thing to our attention, and hopefully we act upon it. I believe that every small action helps, like you not using the palm oil. Good on you.
