Cheap courses - Beware

I see since I have been quiet on the groups that the con artists are

coming out of the woodwork again.

There seems to be more people offering aromatherapy courses that are

cheap and almost worthless. I have just seen one on offer in Canada for

$39.99. There is no way that you will get sound information on such a

course. On my web site are two articles over how bad Canadian courses

have been and this shows still are.

Below are examples of the trash taught on this course:

Orange oil is claimed to be:

Astringent - It is NOT.

Cellulite - Hogwash!

Colds/Flu - Orange oil is NOT antiviral.

Constipation - Hogwash!

Digestion - maybe if consumed, not otherwise.

Fever - usually due to a virus so no evidence at all.

Female Complaints - What does that mean, dangerously misleading.

Mouth ulcers - doubtful.

Water Retention - Hogwash.

Weight Loss - Hogwash.

Eucalyptus oil is stated to be:

Anti-Inflammatory - the opposite is the truth.

Anti-Viral - the essential OIL is not.

Genital Infections - it is illegal in most countries for a complementary

practitioner to treat sexually transmitted diseases.

Water Retention - Hogwash.

Diarrhea - how?

These are just a few examples I have taken from claims made on this

course providers web site. Clearly the owner has not a clue about what

essential oils are or can do. If you take such a course you are getting

wrong and dangerous information.

Hi Martin, Thanks' for this valuable information. What sort of stuff

should we look for that will tell us that the course is good.

What sort of qualifications are necessary to teach aromatherapy?

Can you recommend good courses?

What sort of price would can we expect to pay for a good course?

What else should we look for?

Martin, do the monographs you offer on your site explain the

therapeutic benefits of essential oils in a form similar (but actually

accurate)to the example you gave in your post, below? For example, if

I wanted to know what benefits could be derived from an oil, would

there be a listing of the benefits in the monographs? (Sorry if this

comes through twice-I don't think my first reply went through).

Thanks, Susan

Hi Martin, good to see you back in action and posting to the group.

Hope you're doing well.

Take care,

Stacey

The paid for oils monographs do list the known therapeutic uses along

with proper references. However, those are not in brief form like I

listed in the last post, but rather each use has a few lines

associated with it.

It took me years to sort the wheat from the chaff in this trade and

that is why I get so annoyed by the utter crap that is still being put

out by know nothing teachers on the Internet in particular, but also

on numerous junk in-person courses around.

I reckon the free file I offer has got better information than the $39

course I mentioned.

Hope that answers your questions, but if you have more email me via my

web site for a personal reply.

HI Susan,

I'm not Martin, but thought I'd chime in anyways. I'm usually a lurker, but

do read the posts with much interest.

I bought a set of Martin's monographs and they are a wealth of information.

It is very comforting to know that the info gathered from his research is

accurate, as there is a phenomenal amount of information on the net and in

books that simply isn't correct. So far I have only perused the monographs

for info on certain oils that I am interested in but could spend hours and

hours reading the wealth of knowledge they contain. I am so glad that

someone with his knowledge took the time and effort to publish these

monographs.
