Guest guest
Howdy Jo Ann, > Hi, I know you can't use EOs on cats but can you use candles with EOs > or is that a no no as well. I was looking at Butch's site and saw > candles that had lavender and tea tree EOs and thought that might be a > good idea to use in cold and flu season. > > Jo Ann Nourse First .. lemme point out that EO candles can kick Big Bad Bug Butts .. http://www.soton.ac.uk/mediacentre/news/2004/june/04_89.shtml Then I will say that you are correct in that EO should not be used on cats ... their metabolism is totally different than humans or even from dogs .. and they have a tendency to constantly lick themselves when they're awake. ;-) Obviously, such grooming would cause a cat to ingest anything placed on their body. Then I will say that the fact just mentioned has caused some folks to become overly cautious with their furry feline kids .. I had two cats for many years .. in a small apartment in Turkey. Those critters were always where I was .. couldn't even go to the john without them wailing like banshees till I opened the door. ;-) During that time I was not into EO candles but I was diffusing EO .. and that will place far more volatile molecules in the air than will a candle because even though the heated molecules will rise .. some of the EO is going to be consumed/evaporate when it is heated by a candle flame. I never had a problem and my cats never showed their dislike for the odors by leaving the room. If we were to constantly keep EO candles or a diffuser working in a room .. it would most likely be harmful to cats .. and children .. and big human critters. That is a different thing from occasional use. Frequent use of EO in any manner can be harmful .. depends on the EO and the health of the person using the EO. One might consider asking whether using normal candles would be harmful to a cat .. or a human. Folks don't usually consider this but it is hard to find an EO candle that is not safer than a normal candle in any case. Most EO candles are made with natural products like soy wax and all-cotton, lead-free core less wicks .. so there is no carcinogenic petro-carbon soot in the air. I am a loyal supporter of the work Sue Martin (The Lavender Cat) .. http://www.thelavendercat.com/generic.html?pid=10 has compiled on EO and Cats .. and I accept that the bodies of cats are not as well equipped to detoxify as are many other forms of life .. but it is my opinion that infrequent use of EO candles is not harmful to a cat .. and even infrequent diffusion EO is not nearly as potentially dangerous to them as are the normal household cleaning materials that most cat owners use as a matter of routine. If we wish to be overly cautious then we must be prepared to find ways to clean our homes without the use of ANY volatile chemicals .. and probably some folks have found a way to do this. I am NOT taking this position in order to sell $2 EO candles .. we offer them (and Rose Petal Jam) as a courtesy to our customers but in fact, both items are a pain in the butt because the profit margin is extremely low and when someone orders only few candles or a jar or two of jam the hourly labor cost to confirm, package and ship the order is almost always more than the profit from that order. ;-) For that reason I am seriously considering not offering them in the future. I take this position because I believe what I am saying is true .. and I think there is a lot of room for more credible and factual information in the AT community. Martin and I and some other folks have worked for years to try to burst the balloons of misinformation so common in the AT industry .. but its a losing battle. Many folks still believe that Rosemary should not be used by folks suffering from Epilepsy .. or that Pennyroyal is a dangerous abortificiant .. these two beliefs (and many others) are total BS .. no basis in fact. On the other hand .. folks don't hesitiate to use real harmful oils .. like Wintergreen and Sweet Birch. Because AT in the USA is not a controlled alternative/complementary self-treatment modality, truth is at the mercy of the misinformed and the dangerous and greedy con artists .. because AT is controlled in the Social Democratic European Empire .. it is at the mercy of unqualified " expert " committees who make major decisions on what and what not the sheeple can use .. and those Big Brothers are influenced by BigPharma .. so it is likely that we will never become a credible entity in the Western World. The East and Russia and a few other countries, however, will continue to use EO and herbs and acupuncture and many other viable, credible and efficient alternative treatments with the blessings of their governments. Y'all have a good one .. and keep smiling. :-) Butch .. http://www.AV-AT.com

Guest guest
Hi Jo Ann, I come from a family of sinusitis suffers, and have found a great remedy worth trying. We had Farida Irani cone and talk at our last Conference here, and she had divine Ayurveda oils, plus some herbal decoctions. One of them was called Anu Taila. It is good for all conditions concerning the nose and ears. You put 1-2 drops on your finger and insert in each nostril morning and night. - it really cleanses the sinuses as well as helping with insomnia. I used to get really itchy ears whenever I washed my hair, with the water in them, now it is all a thing of the past. We live in an area surrounded by pine forests, and we have just got through the season where everything is covered in the yellow pine pollen. I was fortunate this year, ( with my nose anointed with Anu Taila) with no dreadful sneezing and headaches. It is certainly worth looking at. Well said Butch and thank you. I use alot of baking soda and white vinegar to clean. Due to my lung problem, I have to stay away from harsh chemicals. Kindly, Sue
