Guest guest
Botanical Name: Blackhousia citriodora I took a tiny bottle of Lemon Myrtle to work with me, along with a blend of that plus Rose Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens), and Lemon (Citrus limon). The scent of Lemon Myrtle travelled far. Several people walked over to see what smelled so good. Another asked if I had been cleaning. It has that bite-you-in-the-nose quality, that many people within range of my desk thought could not be natural. When used alone, it seemed uplifting to those around me. Even my boss liked it. I left around Noon, for the airport, so I quickly refreshed with the blend I brought. The blend was sweet and simple, clean and more feminine. It was a bit more candy-smelling, without the punch-in-the-nose. I wore it at the airport and on the plane (one drop on each shoulder of my blouse). At the airport, no one said anything. My husband noticed it, though, and thought the blend was great. He was stuck next to me on the plane, so I was happy to hear that. The plane ride was not a good trip, but it was re-assuring to get a whiff of the blend off and on. It helped me breath deeply and relax more. I've since worn the rest of the blend around the office. It stirs my appetite! Overall, the day with Lemon-Scented Myrtle was uplifting and delicious. Even made a not-so-good flight somewhat bearable. Guest guest
Hey, Listees, We'll take anymore reports of days spent with Lemon Myrtle...so if you haven't taken it for a walk, you are highly encouraged to do so. I have not yet been lucky enough to invite Myrtle to my house; however, as soon as I can get her number I will. I hear she is very enticing with her lemony goodness wafting through the air as she flips her hair just so. Reminding one of a lemon poppyseed cake and causing one to drool and imagine lemon cakes and fresh homemade lemonade on a hot Texas day... WOW. I wanna smell. (I know it may not smell like that, but I couldn't help with the references to lemons.) Jennifer.
Guest guest
(I'm late, I'm late, I'm very very late.....) Hi As I mentioned earlier our Take an Oil for a Walk Day coincided with my day surgery for trigger finger. So I was delighted that Lemon Myrtle was our chosen oil. Why? Because Backhousia citriodora has been shown to be effective against methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) - an ongoing problem in UK hospitals. (see http://tinyurl.com/2r3o8e for abbreviated research paper - Scirus search term : *lemon myrtle essential oil*, followed by refined search " antimicrobial " ) Although one research paper does not make a *fact* it did give me a little comfort to know I would have the vapors of Backhousia citriodora around me, and possibly offering some protection! Well the day came and I started by dropping a couple of drops of LM into a neutral liquid soap and washed my hands with it before we left for the hospital. I added a drop to a tissue for good luck, to smell the aroma, and try to *feel* it and its effect on me throughout the day. At first I felt bright and alert and loved the lemon waft as I got the tissue in and out of my bag. After an hour or two the aroma began to fade so I topped it up with another drop. By 2.30 I began to get a little head-achy - like a sinus-nose-headache. I found I was not enjoying the aroma anymore and was actually turning away from my bag to avoid it. It was a relief when my name got called and I had to put all my belonging in a locker. The nurse however thought the smell was *wonderful* and it brightened her day! The surgeon also asked what *lemony perfume* I was wearing, (which as the tissue was in my bag, in a locker, says much for his smelling ability or the tenacity of LM!). We had a good chat about EO's whilst he and his team worked on my hand (local anesthetic) which was really, really surreal and not a little weird! He was at great pains to tell me that *His* day surgery OT had no MRSA problems...non the less he was interested in the use of EO's in a hospital environment and I gave him information about the Manchester Team who are working on this. (http://www.manchester.ac.uk/press/newsarchive/title,8376,en.htm) . Overall my Day with LM started bright and cheerful. Got me involved in interesting conversation's with health care professionals, made my husband's car smell better (!) but left me feeling overexposed to it and head-achy. There is *something* about LM that gets a little heavy for me, it loses the brightness and zing, turning cloying. I was glad to put the bottle away. LLx (who did NOT get MRSA, but is sad to report the op was not fully successful, maybe I distracted the surgeon with tails of EO's....<sigh>) On 22/08/07, Christina M <BodyAmbrosia wrote: > We picked Lemon-Scented Myrtle for our first-ever Take an EO > for a Walk Day. > > So for the next day or so, let's take a dab of the EO with us, and > then share our experiences here on the group. Guest guest
Hi Liz, Liz wrote: " There is *something* about LM that gets a little heavy for me, it loses the brightness and zing, turning cloying. I was glad to put the bottle away. " You said it! I put three drops of a blend on my work-shirt at about 7 am. The blend contained: lemon-scented myrtle, rose geranium, eucalyptus, and rosemary. It really got me going this morning. As I went throughout my day, I noticed it from time to time. Around 3 pm, all I could really smell was LM. My boss asked what strange oil I was wearing. And while he liked it, he called it " strong stuff " . He thought it was syrupy sweet, too. And the this evening, while I sit here 11 hours after putting it on, I can still smell the LM. Now that is staying power. Cheers, Christina
