Guest guest
I got a sunburn and only have an aloe vera blend from the drugstore on hand. The ingredients are: Aloe vera gel, triethanolamine, tocopheryl acetate, carbomer 940, tetrasodium EDTA, DMDM hydantoin, diazolidinyl urea. I'm going to use it after a cold shower this afternoon, but I'd be interested in opinions on whether it's worth getting 100% aloe vera later on tonight to use for the next few days? Or is this good enough? (The brand is " Fruit of the Earth " , FWIW.) Thanks in advance, Stacey
Guest guest
Hi Stacey, I've used that canned stuff before, but nothing works like fresh aloe. Try to find a plant to use, or maybe a health food store has some fresh aloe. One of these times when I see you, I'll bring a baby aloe plant along. Cheers, Christina
Guest guest
Thanks, Christina. No health food store tonight, so I just have to tough it out. Haha. Thanks for offering to bring a plant down, that'd be awesome. Hugs, Stacey who is very bad for not expecting a sunburn in the morning and not putting on sunscreen --- Christina M <BodyAmbrosia wrote: > Hi Stacey, > > I've used that canned stuff before, but nothing > works like fresh aloe. I'd thought I'd planned for a little 30-minute hike at 10am, I need the sun, so no sunblock, just a jojoba blend. Then that 30-minutes turned out to be about an hour and a half in the sun. Eek! I have a weirdo sunburn mainly on one side to remind me of it now. >Having said that and done that, I find St. John's Wort infused olive oil to take out the inflamation pronto..Looking forward to seeing you in Austin!< Thanks for the tip on St. John's and olive oil. FWIW to others, I *think* an infusion of St. John's Wort is photosensitizing, so it's something to use after a sunburn and when you'll be out of the sun. (Please correct me if I'm wrong!) Anyhow, I'm out in the sun a little more than usual, so I especially need to be careful. I did make it to a store last night to get pure aloe, so that was nice. Now to baby it and eventually even out my tan line. (I'm porcelain white and wouldn't mind be a bit more flesh-toned. Ha!) It's going to be great seeing you in Austin. I've missed you since last year and felt like I already knew you and Michele/Chaeya forever. :-) XOXO, Stacey
Guest guest
Hi Christina, How do you use fresh aloe vera for the sunburn ? Do you just take out the gel from the plant and apply neat ? Guest guest
Hi Sraboni, good to 'see' you. :-D > How do you use fresh aloe vera for the sunburn ? Do you just take out the gel from the plant and apply neat ? If you have an aloe plant then you just break off a piece, split it open and rub the inside directly on the burn. Then I put it in a baggie in the fridge and use until it's wilted. (Wonder if I should poke holes in the bag?) HTH, Stacey P.S. I'm sure Christina will have more info for you if she's got a sec. :-)
Guest guest
Hi guys, Stacey, we do pretty much the same thing: I wash the piece I broke off, slice it just about in the middle of the flat part, and open it up to expose as much as I can. Then just apply the goo by running it over the sunburn. Any left over goo goes on my hair prior to my next wash. It leaves it so soft. Hope that helps, Christina
