Guest guest
March 25 Thanks Ysha, Harriet's been very grizzly for a few hours a day for a few days. I'm pretty certain it's an upset tummy as she seems very tense. I'd love your thoughts. She's 11 days old and is soothed by constant rocking or bouncing and sucking. Her capacity to suck is enormous and I wonder if, like chewing, it aids her digestion. What are your thoughts on dummies? I'm on antibiotics which might be bothering her tummy. Finally how long does it take for my body to make milk? For example how long between what I eat and it turning into milk? Thanks for all your help. Julia Dear Julia - Yes definitely the antibiotics make us grizzly - I find (it has been a long time since I used medical antibiotics, but it was consistent) that after a day or 3 my emotions get really scrambled, in addition to the gas and other vata increased symptoms of killing off part of the gut's natural function. I don't have this negative reaction using essential oils for antibiotics. Can you get a baby probiotic to give a little on your finger or liquified in dropper? I'm not an expert on brands or dosage, you will have to read the package or ask for advice. Maybe on the forum. I've an appointment to run to, can't do it for you just now. Also, she is right at the 10-12 day growth spurt and will need extra attention. As a midwife said, just hit the bed and stay there, nurse and nurse and nurse and nourish yourself and know within a day or so that piece will pass. Nursing is building your supply of course, and when anything bothers a baby, they use their best organ of action, which is by sucking to try to make changes, and of course because it gives so much pleasure when they need to eat and being close. It ALSO balances their hemispheres and gives them bliss. When she is clearly recently tanked up (full) and wants to nurse again, give her your upside down pinky finger to suck on - may take an intro or two to accept it but once she gets the hang, it will also comfort her well and not complicate the digesiton with sweet milk on top of partially digested. Breast milk is a product of rasa dhatu, the plasma, and is the first " tissue " the body creates as product of digestion making sure Baby is cared for whether the rest of your system is or not! How long? Best I can answer is: Depends on your agni and what you've eaten, how etc but I'd say from a few minutes to a day or more by my understanding. That is, according to Susan Weed, an herbal infusion/tea will give effects into the breast milk in about 5 minutes. But food to the other components, a little longer, depending upon the components. Great question! I hope you still have good help around you so you as a mama-baby couple can take care of yourselves. Love, Ysha
