Parents have blessed the sharing of their story. Posting first of 3 or 4

updates today:

Julia Jones Unwell

Hi Ysha, my wife Julia gave birth to our daughter this morning. Julia

lost 2 letres of blood in a breach birth emergency transfer from our

home. Her uterus is damaged and that have inserted a ballon to hold in

in place. She is also low blood pressure as expected.

What food do you recommend for her. She has asked.

Love Dylan

Dear Dylan -

I've just seen your message and hope someone has referred to the postpartum

cookbook, first foods section. She has many needs which are best supported

together. Lots of rejuvenative needs in addition to special blood building.

There are lots of tips here, scan it first then get your pen out for what you

and your family or friends can do when. The first attached goes into a

checklist of things you may want to gather for smoother stay in the hospital,

and the attached second document may be valuable for you also until her cookbook

is found. Feel free to call me if you get this tonight at 505-508-4219 anytime,

or before 10 am Mountain Daylight time it is here, I " m not sure what your clock

says. You are in Australia or New Zealand, right?

So - she should have

• iron rich non-constipating things including

o boiled full cream milk cooked with several dates (high iron), other chai type

seasonings as desired optional and saffron, as often as desired

o stewed dried fruits (raisin, prune, fig, currant, cherry, blueberry, like

this, cooked with ginger/clove/cinnamon or such), daily will be good for a while

o dark jaggery (indian sugar) or rapadura or succanat or even molasses if

desired - usually served on anything like a longer cooked rice pudding with

milk, no eggs or even just steamed basmati (not brown) rice cooked with 3 or

more parts water to 1 rice, plus her agni needs to be babied for days with

supportive herbs, depending upon what you have, and the recommended oleation

(ghee, 2-3 tbs as below).

o beets, well cooked, sweet or coriander-clove-ginger-fennel seasoned, with

ghee, and moist

o If there is any dried leafy greens, this powder turned into a tasty sauce with

garlic, ghee, cumin etc is high iron and won't put her at more bleeding risk.

o there is a wonderful product for iron building supplement - if you have

access. Midwives here often use it, and I have personal testimony. It is a

tasty liquid produced by Flora called Floradix. Check online for your best

access if not in the natural food stores. Swanson's currently has it on sale

till today or maybe later, if you get this in time, and if they have warehouses

there, I'm not sure. It works very well, very bioavailable.

o the Chinese give meat eating mamas oxbone soup, not it can increase heat and

bleeding in the body with pitta and adrenal building food like that;

o if she craves chicken, for adrenal support do in soup with lots of roasted

garlic and optional okra or dill weed or fenugreek leaves or fennel, and carrot.

• Oleation

o Get special needed laxative, cleansing, calming, rebuilding, hormonal,

steadying energy and other support from very generous ghee (or butter, macadamia

nut oil, or even sesame or coconut oil - what is her preference and

availabiilty? In all her foods, extra ghee is ideal. Right now, that looks

like probably 2-3 tablespoons per meal!

o hot mushy or brothy foods and other foods as above

o creamy, for now that means things like hot milk, nut milk, a few soaked nuts

especially almonds; coconut milk, young coconut with ginger perhaps, proteins,

etc, fat rich

• sweet foods give comfort, quick energy and help digesting sometimes; they give

extra carbs much needed but have to be easy to digest and generally also have

fats, spices and some protein

• moist, soupy, moist, mushy and did I say pudding like? vata pacifying and

extra easy to digest grains like oat or basmati rice, quinoa, cream of wheat

• include spices to reignite the digestive fires which as it were, have been

blown out with birth for all mothers, and likely extra challenged for Julia's

situation

o Lots of fresh ginger in the food, or dried as available is good.

o what you have and that tastes good to her of pepper, cardamom, turmeric (to

help astringe the uterus, not huge amounts though), cinnamon, clove, and if not

constipated, nutmeg is also good

o please see the recipe called garlic chutney. Within a day or so you can save

special prep time by giving her this with any more regular type foods - rice,

vegetables, a thin mung dhal, as desired about 1 tsp at a time. Otherwise also,

ample well cooked garlic has special benefits.

o fennel, cumin, coriander, and others per her list or the list is also posted

online at www.sacredwindow.com/articles

• Do you have a thermous or two? for the 2 teas, maybe a second meal soup or

kitchadi kept hot, and hot milk tonic can be brought to the hospital and make

life so much easier. See this and more discussed in the postpartum hospital

list, attached which may be helpful.

Minimize or Avoids

• sour including yoghurt, and salty if you can for 2 more days or so

• avoid dark leafy greens for about a week , or more, or if craved before then

well cooked, seasoned, oiled in soupy puree to start.

• raw foods - when desired in few days or longer she can have sweet fresh fruit

though.

• citrus, chiles, eggs, things which increase pitta increase risk of bleeding

problems excepting herbs specific for incresing the agni. See above and in the

cookbook.

• no laxatives - no triphala, senna or castor oil until bleeding is much

lightened.

• avoid dried (toast, cracker, dry fruits, potatoes etc), cold, old, canned or

frozen foods

Please ask Julia if you remember, may I share this on the forum for any vaidya

input and other student's benefit? I would like to stay in touch with you all

about how she is doing - daily if you wish, certainly over short groups of days

her needs will evolve and we should check in, ok?

My love and blessings to her and you; I'm so happy you wrote, and of course so

happy she is alive and recovering! And how is your little girl? And you - you

must be exhausted too besides in process of releasing the intense stress and

emotions; are you getting any sleep?

Warm Regards,

Ysha

Ysha,

Julia is home and right now feeding the little one. Both are well,

Julia picking up colour and energy.

We've had a bit of sleep and getting adjusted to this baby business.

Thank you for all the info, Julia had us all prepared before hand but

it's much more important now given the bleeding.

We're happy to share and for you to share the situation with students

and vaidyas etc. And will give much more detailed accounts in time.

I'm sure Julia will be in touch soon. I'll email again later about

best ways of documenting her AyurDoula studies which we are fulfilling by direct

experience!

Oops time for a change.

Many thanks Dylan
