Guest guest
Hello, I have a patient now who is 11 days postpartum. I am her midwife. On Monday, against all orders, she left the house to run an errand. That day she had cramping (afterpains had ceased 3 days pp). Since then she has had a pain in her left side where her round ligament is. She says it feels like a really sore muscle. It's not endometriosis. I ruled that out. I am just wondering what the ayurdoulas would suggest. I am not doing the abhyanga with her. I did suggest massaging her uterus herself with warm oil, binding, Arnica 200c. Any other suggestions Ayurvedically. She had a great home birth with baby #3. No complications. Lovely! Thanks in advance, Shannon Staloch, LM, CPM www.hakimamidwifery.com
Guest guest
Hi Shannon - She has the most important keys in my opinion. I'd be using your recs and some essential oil of balsam fir, or at least lemongrass for support, and just encourage proper rest. Balsam addresses both muscle and ligament, lemongrass ligament - for pain, oxygenation, and rejuvenation of the tissue. Even organic lavender oil will probably help with what sounds like sort of bruised tissue, or melaleuca with rosemary. I'm sure there are ayurvedic balms or something like Tiger Balm will bring her body's intelligent healing attention to the area, topically applied also. The belly wrapping will really help her not reinjure. Connective tissues are fragile as you probably know, from the natural hormonal softening for birth. We give a preparation with gond (edible gum/gum acacia), almonds, saffron and digestive herbals and succanat for snack twice daily to strengthen the natural rebuilding of connective tissues, though that's not corrective to having damaged it I'd be recommending. I have a batch of those mother's laddu if she wants it can call or email privately. I'm no expert on internal medicine, so can only offer the supportive guidance. It seems she will probably heal quickly unless she was carrying baby/carrier too and really tweaked something harshly. Warm Regards, Ysha > I have a patient now who is 11 days postpartum.
