Guest guest
Vicky - YOur question is not clear to me - who is 15, the mother of your grandaughter, whose mom also has low thyroid? And what is it about meds - did she (grandma) recently come off some kind of meds? It would make sense that whether breast or bottle fed (for different reasons, both around agni and ama) that if mama's thyroid is low, babies would be. I don't know in terms of exchange of the endocrine hormones, but the quality of digestion long term (in addition to quite a list of other contributing factors like high chlorine exposure) can influence thyroid function negatively. If it were my baby in addition to more traditional ayurvedic supports depending on baby's age and diet etc, I'd be introducing topical use of a blend of essential oils which is supportive to thyroid function. THis may help the baby much more than the mama, as babies are so sensitive to simple measures. I've adjusted your subject line, hopefully there will be more input! Love, Ysha > there was a post earlier about women with low thyroid and babies being born turned around. I remembered that my granddaughter was born face up. She is 15 now and her mom recently tested out low for thyroid and is not on meds and feels so much better. Would that baby have a low thyroid also? > > Vicky York, IBCLC, CPD > Postpartum Care Services > www.vickyyorkdoula.com > > > references: www.ikarma.com/user/vmyork > > > > >
Guest guest
The mother (whose baby is now 15 yrs old) evidently had low thyroid and now because of your post I realize that is why her baby came out face up. Now I'm wondering if the 15 year old maybe has a low thyroid all these years? The mother only found out recently she has low thyroid and got on meds for it. Guest guest
Vicky, There is a self test I was told about, described at http://sacredwindow.com/thyroid-support (self assessment). Maybe it will be a good place to start, cost only a thermometer and paper/pen to track and average the basal metabolic temperature. Forgive the funny symbols there - my son is working on cleanup efforts including broken links and other things in my website.
