Guest guest
Does anyone have experience with this? Today I watched several docs I respect, one an ayurvedic, talk about its benefits, in large doses like 5,000 IU a day until your levels are up to 50-80 something ideally for the immune system magic. And discussion about how it acts hormonally. Then I saw another utube piece about it being the active component in rat poisen! I'm remembering my friend Dona Smith at RMIYA saying something about this, and don't know the right perspective. Certainly sunshine, which helps us make D3, is so valuable to the immune system and in less availability in the winter. Ysha
Guest guest
This is what i found on the internet " Old rat poisons were made of cholecalciferol, which is essentially the same as good ol’ Vitamin D, there’s just lots more of it. It causes the body to retain calcium, but too much! Soft tissues become mineralised and non functional, including the heart, arterioles and the kidneys. Acute renal failure is usually the cause of death, and there’s no antidote or treatment once the poison is in the animal’s system, or the soft tissues are affected. " I'm sure that if we took way too much vit D we would have trouble too, in fact we'd get all the same symptoms of not enough vit D. Dr. Mercola says we should probably be getting about 4000-5000IU of vit D a day depending on what our levels already are. I have been taking 4000 IU a day for 4 months, and going out in the sun a lot until a couple of months ago, just got my levels tested (the test is calcifediol (25-OH vitamin D-3), they are supposed to be between 30-80ng/mL. Mine was 83 and they said to back off. But since we are going into flu/cold season and I'm not getting any more sun at all, I think I will only back off to 2000IU for a bit and if i get sick I'm taking 4000IU and will go to a tan booth a few times to get well (and echinacea, chicken broth, ashwaganda, etc) Vicky Vicky York, IBCLC, CPD Postpartum Care Services www.vickyyorkdoula.com references: www.ikarma.com/user/vmyork
Guest guest
HI Vicky - So it sounds like your immune system has been better since doing these things? Glad to hear. Not much sun these days in Oregon Ill bet. Same temp compared to here, felt so much colder there to me last year when I was there.... Yes, that's the article I saw too, while all these highly respected docs are still using D3 with their clients and reporting great results. I'm inclined to believe Drs Douillard, Mercola and others over the very funky production on UTube that talked about this particular conspracy theory. I'd love to hear what Shawna (ARNP in Florida) has to say about it. > This is what i found on the internet > " Old rat poisons were made of cholecalciferol, which is essentially

Guest guest
Shawna Doran was a midwife in Florida for years before becoming a nurse-practitioner (ARNP). SHe has a clinic in Alachua, Florida where they serve rather like family practitioner except an ARNP doesn't have hospital priveledges. Shawna's valuable experience includes with natural childbirth, some familiarity with Ayurveda, and many years service alongside a physician who practiced effective alternative modalities with severe illnesses ( " we treated several breast cancer patients weekly " for instance). All this and her practical caring nature has given her many tools and skills not commonly found with her training level. Her clinic offers some of the best biological tests/screenings and understanding which of the medical tests aren't worth it, and she helps choose with integrity to save your funds. They offer on site breast cancer screening with what is it called? Not mammograms, the other technology that is safer and just as effective. I consider her a great resource we sometimes get to hear from on this forum, not only with mother and baby care. She offers gifts personally including as a Quaker peace activist from New Yawk bronx I believe, and professionally in a body of wise-woman and proven effective tools that sits more in the scientific or alternative western camp of health care than Ayurveda, and definitely wiser and more effective than allopathic for many things, while having the training and licensure of allopathy. I hope I said that right. She has started a local farmer's market in their parking lot, and now seems to be spearheading a stop a nuclear power plant in the area campaign also. Obviously, I adore this woman and continue to wish her all the best. And hope she will continue to share with us when she can. Hopefully her ears are buzzin' about now - Ysha >docs are still using D3 with their clients and reporting great results.
