Taking vitamin d is not nearly as effective as getting outside into the sunshine and letting your face and body make it. And it is exactly what one needs.

Of course, taking it is far more convenient, and perhaps necessary, for those of us who just don't want to go outside, or can't for some reason or another.

If you are in daylight for 15-20

min daily, that's enough for your body

to make Vitamin D from the sun. But you can have glasses on.

Can you tell me what brand of Vitamin D would be best and most inexpensive? I try to get the most I can out of what little I can afford to take along with my kids. Thank you.

I am wondering, is it true as someone has stated on this forum that the Vit D3

is absorbed better in liquid form?

My M.D. tested mine last year and it was 8. He was very alarmed and told me to take 800 IU of D3.

 

I started taking 3,000 IU and had it tested 6 months later (Jan. 2009). The nurse called and said it was still very low. She seemed to be confused about the whole results of that and my thyroid levels. When I asked the number of the reading she said she couldn't tell. It is very irritating to pay all that money and not be given the correct info. Anyway she said to double what I was taking because she thought it was 800 so now I am taking 5,000 daily. I'll go back in June and have the whole thing redone.

 

I think this doc quoted 24 as being low but can't be positive because of my aggravation...LOL

I have heard you don't want to trust Quest for testing Vitamin D levels, the test they use is not good. Check with Dr Mercola on that.

Life Extension I believe have effective products that are well formulated and cutting edge. They are constantly researching which is excellent and have a wonderful magazine that I throughly enjoy and always have something in them to learn from. They have a VitaminD3 product in 5000IU (only 1 cap to take). I take one a day and have tested over and over in the 70-80 range for Vit D on my blood tests. Those of us diagnosed with cancer need to keep our D levels high.

Interestingly, I have found every fNHL patient on our large list (over 500) deficient in Vitamin D unless they are supplementing at higher doses than most allopathic DR's would recommend. (5,000 i.u and upwards) Some very good information, studies, and the best educational videos I believe available are all located on a site called Grass Roots Health.

 

A little burrowing down at this web site will open a treasure trove of Vitamin D information. I have read somewhere that 35ng/ml. doctors called normal is the low part of the range, you can go up to 55- 60ng/ml. to be consider healthy

by natural pactitioners.

Just to add a little to the vitamin D 3 20 minutes to half hour at noon, than not to shower for 48 hours, giving the vitamin D a chance to soak in, it you do shower, only use soap in the pit areas, and your hands.

Another tid bit to go along with D 3 don't take regular vitamin a take Beta Carotene with Vitamin D 3

That is a great run down about Vit D. I believe Dr. Mercola said optimum levels

should be 35-55 ng/ml and she says 50-80ng/ml. I'm recently at 83 and have been

taking 4000IU per day. It's still a little confusing but we're zeroing in. My

dr. ordered me to reduce the amount I'm taking saying 30-80 is normal. But since

it is cold/flu season and the toxicity level is so high, I'm going to continue

my current dosage since I'll be getting less sun. The toxicity part is still

confusing too.

Have you seen a difference with your clients, Suzanna? thanks for this. I " ve

some drops, but was mystified how much to use and it seems one of those kind of

alterative effects, you dn't notice dramatic changes. Though one of my students

feels significant difference for her health which is fragile. Kudos, Vicky, for

bringing up your immune protections so well.

 

So - something that is so good for the immune system must have some effect on

ojas it seems.....? Im curious the mechanism.
