Guest guest
Thanks Ysha for your words and advice. According the report , she was in the 7th week when the baby's heart beat stopped and the miscarriage occured during 11th -12th week. It was very depressing to undergo such a thing. But because of our busy lifestyles and Shreya ( our daughter ) somehow we are managing. Unfortunately because of the complicated US immigration laws she needs to be working or else she will be considered illegal since she is on work visa. She is primarily Vata type and also some Pitta as observed by her Vaidya. So do you think Shatavari would help her ? So sorry to hear about the miscarriage, and that your wife has had to return to work already. How far along was she, and how is she feeling now? One of our Ayurdoulas recently had a miscarriage and reports the distinctive advice to do most of the postpartum protocols if possible for about 3 weeks. this is her very well educated and personal experience perception, that the window at that time is about 3 weeks. I've never had it confirmed by a vaidya, though that sounds right to me, especially for mid or later pregnancy. Early pregnancy it is still a sign often of excess pitta, emotions, and other rebuilding needed. This will all really naturally help re-balance her hormones. So vata pacifying, possibly also pitta, rest, more reclusive time, oil massage, attending to agni and cleansing the womb, and personalized herbal rasayanas would be part of my focus. If she can minimize responsibilities for a couple weeks more and receive some of the wonderful, rejuvenative, rebuilding and calming therapies of ayurveda, it sounds wise to me. I hope this is doable in some way. Warmly, Ysha > Dear Ayurdoulas, > > This is Jay. I used to post queries here regularly for my daughter who is now 2. My wife ( 33 ) had a miscarriage couple of weeks ago. It occurred naturally and there was no surgery involved. Her doctor has put her on anitbiotics and also wants to check her hormone levels after 2 weeks. My wife has gotten back to work as well. Does she need to be on any special diet ? How soon can we try for another baby ? > > > Thanks, > Jay
Guest guest
Indeed Ysha. We have no local access to an Ayurvedic Doctor. My wife has an apptmnt with her OB/Gyn tomorrow where they are going to test her hormone levels 2 weeks after the miscarriage. Hope its all returned to normal. Will keep you posted. Thanks a lot! Jay. ________________________________ ayurdoula <AyurDoulas ayurveda Tue, October 13, 2009 2:32:15 PM PerinatalAyurveda forum Re: Post Miscarriage care Dear Jay - It does sound like challenging times for both of you, and she is so lucky to have your support. If she currently has access to her vaidya, I would take his/her advice on herbal support which I'm pretty sure will include shatavari - it is a rejuvenative tonic for both pitta and the female reproductive system, with hormonal balancing benefits. However as we have discussed here, there are multiple causes for miscarriage even tho often the first trimester is excess pitta is involved, and it is very wise to have someone assess her vikruti and other needs to create a balanced formula. With the need to be working now, we just have to think about lightening her load and stressors, and reducing vata as well as the pitta so she feels nourished, grounded and soothed. WHen in stress mode/high cortisol, rejuvenation is not what the body does. Rejuvenation and comforts are what she needs now. Fortunately Ma Nature is very abundant with choices and if you all sit and look at your resources, schedule and the ayurvedic principles involved with some help as needed there, much support will be experienced. I hope this helps - if you don't have access to your vaidya there now, post as much here and probably one of our members can do a phone consult. Blessings! Guest guest
Hello, Miscarriage aggravates vata in two ways. First, vata increases due to loss of blood and rasa dhatu, also sudden halt to the process of pregnancy puts great strain on all systems. Secondly, it is very painful for the lady psychologically because it causes sense of loss (vacantness). Therefore, ayurveda has advised using large quantity of medicated wine on the same day or the next day, to make her forget the pain and the sense of loss, etc. ((see - ashtanga hridayam - sharirasthana).) Traditionally, Dashamoolarishtam is used after miscarriage (also after normal delivery) along with other herbs.
