Guest guest
My practice is primarily fertility based... I always do si shen cong (with shallow perpendicular insertion) and Du 20 on my pregnant patients in addition to a point pair or two for general constitution. I do very mild needling on the constitutional points. Hope this helps! Ariel Fiamma Aaron wrote: > > > I have a 40 year old patient who I treated just before and just after > IUI. Guest guest
Some German studies have shown that Vitex increases progesterone very significantly, however, I don't know how long it takes to bring that result about and I am not sure how it fits with TCM theory. If she is really low in progesterone right now, she should talk to her primary provider about getting a progesterone injection. I agree with Ariel below, needling GV 20 seems the most important TCM treatment. I also think of Du Zhong as an important herb. Guest guest
I also use xu duan, tu si zi and du zhong regularly to boost progesterone levels and prevent miscarriage. Progesterone is a very yang hormone, and low levels often correspond with some sort of yang deficiency. Bai zhu, bai shao, sang ji sheng, shan zhu yu, e jiao and huang qi are also good herbs for prevention of miscarriage depending on the presentation. Guest guest
Shou Tai Wan is a classic formula for preventing miscarriage. Here it is: Tu Si Zi 6 Sang Ji Sheng 6 Xu Duan 6 E Jiao 6 I think you almost always want to add qi tonics--Huang Qi and Bai Zhu. If there is heat add Huang Qin, which is an herb used to calm a restless fetus from heat. But, of course, you also want to treat from a constitutional perspective. I've read that Tu Si Zi is the most important herb for preventing miscarriage. Laura Chinese Medicine , " Ariel Solomon, L.Ac. Guest guest
This is from a fertility specialist: The formulas that usually work great as a base for miscarriage prevention are Ju Yuan Jian and Bao Yin Jian (spleen def and yin def). I have used these (with slight modifications) hundreds of times with amazing results of stopping bleeding and cramping almost immediately. Laura Chinese Medicine , " Ariel Solomon, L.Ac. Any particularly good points for preventing miscarriage/ low progesterone? I have some ideas but would like to hear others' thoughts. Thanks-Fiamma Hi Fiamma, All somewhere in Jane Lyttleton's book you will find a mention of lower progesterone being associated with lower basal body temperature. Does your patient have any signs or symptoms of Yang Xu? Or Cold? How does her daily temperature chart look? I know a few practitioners who - as well as Du20 - often use Ki9 in the very early days of 'tricky' pregnancies. Guest guest
There can be many reasons for miscarriage. Vitiated Vata and pitta are the active doshas when miscarriage occurs during first trimester. A couple from Barsi, Dist Solapur visited this author in 2007 August. Wife had three miscarriages. During childhood she had a viral fever which lasted more than 10 days. This condition is known to cause vitiation of Vata such that uterus is unable to hold the fetus for long time. The case was more complex as both husbad and wife had excess pitta in pulse, as a result of " Aadya " nadi in their birth chart. Such a match is termed match with " Nadi dosha " in Indian astrology practice and leads to miscarriages, C-sections, children of single sex (either bous or daughters alone). She was put on pitta pacification routine followed by panchkarma for clearing the allopathic residues from the liver, followed by panchkarma for strengthening genito-urinal system (mainly uttar bastis) and finally marma point pressure for 10 days to regularise menstrual cycles (No PCOS, but energy channels were blocked, causing 50-70 days cycle frequency). Last week this lady delivered a baby girl of good health. Total treatment went for nearly 8-9 months. The ayurvedic approach when miscarriages occur, is case specific, though pitta pacification is common in most cases. Some general guidelines, which contains ayurvedic formulations in case of miscarriage history, are offered at: ayurveda/message/9839 Dr Bhate _______________ i have a dear friend that lives in india, who just became pregnant. she recently had a miscarriage and would like to prevent another one. does anyone have any things she can do? Guest guest
Dear Dr. Bhate and Mavis; This is valuable understanding. It is great to hear from you again, Dr. Bhate. I'm wondering how many weeks again pregnant this friend is, which probably influences appropriate preventive protocols now. Aside from obvious minimizing stressful, pitta and vatagenic activities, travel etc. From what few cases I've supported the pitta managment seems also to be key. Pregnant women can use herbal supports with specificity according to weeks and months needs as you and Dr. Thite have previously discussed some on this forum - in addition to the individual vikruti. Obviously, the guidance of a trained ayurvedic physician is wise. For educational purposes, I'm wondering about support which includes appropriate use of some ashoka and a gentle cooling blood purifier though of course not aloe. and at how many weeks is shatavari appropriate for strengthening the reproductive system? Warm Regards, Ysha > There can be many reasons for miscarriage. Vitiated Vata and pitta are the active doshas when miscarriage occurs during first trimester. Guest guest
Hi Mavis - The first trimester is such a pitta time especially, probably good nutrition, gentle on activity, sattva, and watching her pitta are most important at this time. We have several discussions in the archives, Dr. Thite was very informative when he and his wife first joined the group here. That and other info I've been able to gather are collected here: http://health.ayurvedaPREGNANCY%20/ . (the files, see link on right side of the site-page). I hope this is helpful. Hey, I am looking forward to teaching with you next year! - will be back with you on that soon when I can focus on several scheduling requests - Namaste - Ysha > Hi Ysha, > > She is about 5-6 weeks pregnant. > > Thanks for all your help, > Mavis > > > Mavis Gewant > Sacred Artist & Doula > > > www.sacredmotherarts.com > www.gentlecaredoulaservice.com > > > > > >
