Guest guest
Hey Vicky - I can still throw an ok frisbie, could use some tips though and definitely would enjoy the chance to get out and play with it with you! Will do my best on the exchange. We might want to use ace bandages on our ankle and wrist joints for that if it takes us a few more years to get together for it, you know. Actually, there is much to be said for a vata balancing (reducing) focus after menopause as well as postpartum. Bearing in mind extra seasonal, body type especially vikruti influences too, still it is vata time of life. We tend to slip into dryness, weakness, hardness, sensitivity, subtlety, changes, forgetfulness, irregularities .... They respond very well to simple vata pacifying measures. More oil (inside and out), support, softness, kindness, simplicity, stability, regularity, and there are foods and herbs that really help the last 2 and more. Guest guest
I owe you already. I figured you could throw that frisbee, being 70's types that we are. Simplicity seems the hardest to attain, what with making a living through several sources. I've noticed that lots of sleep helps with everything, and I find myself wishing to nap which i never did when younger. Then there are the little fat pouches even though I'm slender, which i can't get off. Guest guest
Hopefully no one minds this digression of issue to some of us beyond childbearing age.... Vicky, Since I can't schedule regular frisbee with you (, I'd suggest finding someone else and do it. Good excercise outdoors does still help with weight though I'm not sure - when you said little pouches, I thought of the cellulite I had coming up for a while over not enough frisbee type time myself. Ayurvedic warm oil massage before your shower helps that too. Depending on where the pouches are....and how the digestive fires are running, there are of course dietary and herbal supports that can help a lot. The more dynamic pranayams (taught properly, with 1-2 min silence at least between each one also) like kapalabhati can be wonderful for belly fat and belly tone among many other benefits I can also testify to that. It is cheap medicine, you jsut have to do it of course.... Dr. Lad has just cut a video of the instruction which should be available for purchase in a week or so, well worth it. Not for early postpartum months however. Sleep is good medicine, again timing of meals, sleep, weather, body type/vikruti all involved there too. And even tho it seems a forgotten one often. It can also be a sign of imbalances in the digestive system if you should be caught up. There must be some ayurvedic students from CCAM or AI or other schools who are between semesters and need practice of their skills - I'd love for you to have more attention directly and as we get older, there tends to be more of a list to ahem, coordinate for. > I owe you already. YOu are lucky, Im not good at the counting process! Actually, you are it seems one of those also who gives a lot because it needs to be given. We have to simply support each other here. >Simplicity seems the hardest to attain, what with making a living through several sources. It is here that we become more in need of things we could ignore before, like sattva, reducing ama in our system, improving our digestion, (I know sounds like a broken record at least that shoudl make it sound simpler though) rest, good nutrition AND the effortless meditation practices, suitable yoga and pranayamas. All these things CAN help reverse the entropy if you find right guidance and habit with them. A deep effortless transcendental meditation practice has extra benefit of organizing all the other layers of creation without having to will it or think it through (!!!). Because health, vitality, bliss are the Divine's desire for us also in my opinion. Certainly it is Ma Nature's desire, and she surrenders very willingly to the guidance of her Divine completion. All these layers ARE connected to our pure consciousness level of simply BEING, where the superfluidity of Nature as confirmed by scientists when allowed, can gift us it's greatest organizing power. Right practice of yoga and pranayama as well as diet can help us experience that effortless transcending. IE, in the work stress world today, there is lots of entropy we can choose to reverse. The true holistic nature of Ayurveda has such a relationship to Yoga (meaning union, no matter what is your religion, a rose is a rose) and Veda (meaning pure science or knoweldge, that Knowledge which seeks out/is experienced by she/he who is awake). Ayurveda is prescriptive, to choose to use when, though we know the answers and spontaneously self-restoring intelligence are within, we can't seem to access them. And to use when the medical and time tested wisdom advises, such as postpartum. It is a very great gift if we accept and use it. Yes, it is quite the dance to fit needed changes in to our lives sometimes, yet the most powerful way to do that is the simplest - quiet intent. Guest guest
Yes, that was well stated. You are truly right for your work as you are gifted with the intuition, knowledge and compassion needed to help new mothers trying to find their footing in a new role as well as your peers i.e. those of us entering the role of community elders and mentors. Quiet intent is so powerful. I find I need to be alone with myself more to find my way and live it rather than socializing much and listening to so many talking about what and how it should be done. I also thank you for this and so much wisdom and practical information you share with the group, Ysha.
