Esther, I have heard that dark circles under kids eyes were indications of

allergies. seems like I've heard that bedwetting can be also. Vicky York

PerinatalAyurveda forum dark puffy under eyes of 8 year old

Hello,

My name is Esther and I go off and on

on this site as my 6 children keep me very busy.

I have a concern about my 8 year old.

Under his eyes there has been dark and puffy circles lately.

He does have a tendency for this,

but at times it seems that it clears up considerably.

He is a thin child, very calm, large blue eyes,

he has not ever been a 'sick' child.

He has been often tired lately, during the day.

There is also a bedwetting issue almost every night.

I have been thinking this might be kidneys, or digestion.

I have been to an ayurvedic practitioner several months ago,

and he said to start him on fresh ginger/aloe/honey in the morning.

He also takes this liquid balakalpam.

It seems his eyes were not so puffy and dark then, though.

It's not actually very dark ,more lt. gray color.

Any thoughts and ideas are well appreciated.

Kind Regards, Esther Shubin

Hi Esther,

What type of diet does your son have? It sounds like he could possibly be

slightly anemic. If you have access to fresh nettles (Urtica dioica), you could

make him a very healing nettle soup (once they are cooked, they don't sting

anymore), or if you can find them dried (at your health food store, or

MountainRoseHerbs.com sells them in bulk), you can brew them (1 oz. dried

nettles to 1 qt. freshly boiled water for 4-8 hours) into a very potent, safe

healing infusion that he can drink throughout the day.

I would also check into his diet to make sure he's getting enough iron-rich

foods, vitamin C, and protein.

Love and light,

Melissa

Esther, while not an ayurvedic perspective, these symptoms are classic of food

alleries and sensitivities, which we have been dealing with for the last year,

and treating with both ayurvedic and western approaches. Feel free to email me

if you want more info.

Warmly,

Erin

Hi Erin, Esther and group members -

I'm sure we all would like to know more how ayurveda and other methods work with

these symptoms and sensitivities if you get a chance? I know questions need to

be asked before recommending details, including assessing the prakruti/vikruti,

dietary habits, height/weight balance and other things. I'd want to know the

latter before suggesting strong use of nettles being as how they are such a good

though gentle diuretic effect also and skinnies may do better for the iron

taking Dr. Lad's tablespoon of soaked raisins or some such. I believe the

nettles are a great food to include for most anyone though.

Some people like myself get dark circles when there is too much dairy for the

agni or genetics, or when cleansing and not supporting the system to do so

properly (including exercise, bowels, antioxidants, as well as hydration) the

kidneys can get overloaded with impurities it isn't processing well then too.

I once overworked myself (moving in middle of the day, heavy stuff in heat of

midwest summer, age 57 and not drinking enough water). I had to sit down for

about an hour and just be a zombie, after drinking lots of water. Created a

permanent, it seems, impact on my kidneys in form of dark groove next to my

right eye, which shows up when stressed.

There is so much we don't know! I'm grateful for anything I can learn for

myself as well as others.

Best -

Ysha
