Hi Group Members,

I would like to find out if there is a good brand or formula which you recommend

for Prenatal Vitamin. I also heard that Fish Oil is good to take during

pregnancy. How about a substitute for Fish Oil for someone who is vegetarian?

Also, what are some good probiotics and how to take them?

I did search for old posts for " prenatal vitamin " and could not find the answer

to posting the question to the group. I hope this is not a repeat topic.

Thank you very much for your feedback and time.

HI Dhara -

I have to leave this Q to the midwives and vaidyas, though there is in the files

section (to your left if you are online) articles on prenatal nutrition keys

from Ayurvedic point of view. How pregnant are you? I've found vegetarian

source EFAs often don't metabolize as well as fish or give the desired results.

Also found that combining " highest lignan " not just " high lignan " flax oil (the

dark brown kind) with dairy (yoghurt, kefir, fresh cheeses) and also with nut

butters works much better. And is enjoyed much better too! Season and/or

sweeten as desired.

Thanks for taking the time to look first -

Best,

Ysha

New Chapter Organics Perfect Prenatal vitamins are excellent. They are made

with organic ingredients, and are 100% food-based, so you absorb all of it

(rather than the typical 10% absorption of most vitamins). They're quite pricey

though, but you only have to take one per meal. Whole Foods is having a great

sale on them through July though -- something like $20 off!

Jarrow Formulas has a great probiotic: " jarrodophilous eps " -- which is room

temperature stable -- no need to refrigerate so you can travel with it, keep it

in your bag, at work... I have been taking 1 per meal, but the dosage says 1 a

day. (The 1 a day helped me to leave India parasite-free, so I'm a big fan of

them.)

Walnut oil is a good substitute for fish oil -- lots of omega 3 and 6. It is so

good for baby's majja dhatu development (brain, nervous tissue) and you only

need to add a TB or so to you food (after it's cooked - best not to heat it).

Very mild taste too, if any.

hope this helps!

Thank you Lexie and Ysha both for your responses. I am trying to conceive not

yet pregnant.

FYI, for anyone who might be interested, saw that Perfect Prenatal Vitamins are

on sale on Amazon also. They are $20 cheaper than at Whole Foods.
