Guest guest
Welcoming here newly pregnant Nitya to the group, with further responses to her private question for support where we also addressed essential oils and printed materials. Posting in a moment more detail into our files section. We have some good discussions on previous posts here also from which the new file has gleaned valuable info from contributing doctors and midwives. I haven't tried this, but gently roasted cardamom seeds are said to help - chewing the ground or whole little seeds release the gentle pranic lift/digestive/pitta reducing combo which is nice. If these things don't work, or only partly, check with someone who does flower essences (not same as essential oils) - I had some good help from the Bach remedies in a blend about 30 years ago when I was so sick with my daughter, before I had Ayurvedic principles and essential oils to work with. Quickly for focus - Focus sattwa, reduce rajas and tamas especially in the first trimester, and pacify pitta first, also vata. Boil and COOL your milk, drink cool (not cold) temp. Enjoy brothy soups, maybe asparagus, celery, things like that in mung broth - alkalizing, not too rich, not too heavy on leafy greens now till you crave them though some are good amongst high folic acid foods. They say older basmati rice is better than fresh - try also dry roasting the grains and cook with little cardamom. Minimize citrus except for lime, enjoy sweet fresh juices like grapeand the antioxidant rich drinks, find the ones you do best with. This isn't a complete list, just to get you going today. How many weeks? There are herbal supports which can be called on also. Keep in close touch what works, what doesn't. BLessings of comfort and peace! Guest guest
Found this from my notes also (note re pitta - about 80% of western women are Pitta dominant, per Vaidya Trigunaji who had read thousands and thousands of pulses in the west, many more in India). - Ysha from Dr. Lad - from The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies. Subject: Morning Sickness Early in pregnancy, morning sickness-nausea and vomiting in the early morning immediately or soon after waking up-is quite common. this condition is due to aggravation of pitta and is especially common among pitta individuals. It usually occurs from approximately the sixth to the tenth week of pregnancy. Some medical researchers have said that the level of estrogen in the blood rises during pregnancy. Estrogen is pittagenic. The higher estrogen level in the blood triggers pitta in the stomach and increases acid secretion, so that the stomach becomes more acidic. In the early morning, when the stomach is empty and acidic, morning sickness can occur. Also, certain odors can trigger nausea and vomiting at any time of the day or night, but sensitivity to smell is greatest in the morning. During pregnancy, a woman's sense of smell becomes unusually sensitive. The reason is interesting. According to Ayurveda, the earth element is particularly prominent during pregnancy, because the fetus is building and growing and the earth element is responsible for solidity and structure. the earth element is also associated with the sense of smell. Ayurvedic literature talks poetically about morning sickness, saying that it is common among women whose babies will develop a copious head of hair after birth. Believe it or not, the first thing to do upon waking up in the morning is to put something in your stomach. Have a little light food. You might try some crackers with a slightly salty taste. Salt is generally pitta provoking, but a small quantity of salt stimulates salivary secretion and helps to reduce pitta. Fresh lime juice is also helpful, with a little salt and sugar. Coconut water with 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, sip every 15 minutes. Soak 10 raw almonds overnight, and next morning peel off the skin and eat them. In addition to providing a high quality protein, almonds are a good source of calcium. Pregnant mothers need both. And they settle the stomach.
