Guest guest
Hi Jivani - There will be a prerequisite of at least 3 days, possibly 6 days equivalance or RMIYA's Foundations of Ayurvedic Medicine 1. I believe they are arranging to teach Ayurvedic cooking as part of the intensive, and this may only cover 1/2 or 2/3 the Ayurvedic Postpartum Care units, not really sure. So I don't have the details, you will have to contact Sonya or Dona per previous post. They are planning a good residential/experiential retreat, so you experience the vata pacifying effects of the foods, do infant massage, prepare basic herbal food supports, work with essential oils, learn the cooking et al. The home spa care/mother's abhyanga may be taught separately wherein students receive and give several treatments, and experience a modified/gentle home panchakarma cleanse protocol in the process the following spring while completing more advanced discussions. Where are you with your studies now? Guest guest
Aloha Ysha, Thank you for your informative response. I will look into this further. I am continuing to treat lots of mothers and their babies. Most babies I begin treating when they are under 24 hours old, as the nervous system is accessible in ways that change after the first day. This is most amazing work and I feel deeply honored to partake in this sacred time. I always encourage lots of vata pacifying diet and lifestyle choices for moms and babies during the sacred window postpartum time. So education is part of my home visit. Also, I always take a meal I've prepared that day: generally a kitcharee or congee lightly seasoned and soupy. I continue to study and observe thru clinical experience. I would very much like to take the AyurDoula Training and am aware that my health would likely limit my participation. I would write you or call you about this in private, but do not feel to post the details. Please email me your direct contact info via my email address jivanimark if you are available. Guest guest
Hi Jivani - They are clearly so fortunate to have your help - you must be a natural at it and in some good shape to be helping them if they are coming to you so much, whatever your challenges. For the record here, with early postpartum mothers' congee or kitchadee, season it unusually strongly rather than lightly. Though not with sharp chiles, but ample sauteed to sweet garlic, black pepper, clove, fresh ginger, turmeric, etc and of course, extra ghee for her - upwards of 3 Tbs for serving in first few days is likely to be very well received. Be sure they eat it very warm temperature too! You can adjust for the mom's doshic environ and body issues some, but her vikruti is guaranteed after birth to need support for weak digestive fires and first order of dietary care after birth for Mom includes rekindling and lubricating. The extra fats also require these extra deepana spices. You might enjoy working with our 55 page collection of recipes we now have up on the sacredwindow.com website for download, to tweak your recipes a bit. Sonya and other experienced AyurDoulas have contributed some favorites, and you will see commentary added. Education at this time is so desperately needed by so many mothers. If you can do some education before the birth, all the better. With postpartum conditions, Mothers though deeply fatigued, will seem very clear, often. This clarity is part of the subtlety of her awareness from boding and deep commitment to the present, yet the vata involved not only gives that. It also will tend to go in one ear and out the other in a surprising way. Have them take notes, or do for them, give supportive handouts - they will use your advice all the more. Wonderful work you are doing! Blessings, Ysha Love Ysha Also, I always take a meal I've prepared that day: generally a kitcharee or congee lightly seasoned and soupy. > > I continue to study and observe thru clinical experience.
