Guest guest
Hi everyone, I joined this group to glean your knowledge on everything perinatal. My particular area of interest is in using clinical nutrition to alleviate perinatal mood disorders. Does anyone have info on how ayurvedic principles can help to alleviate mood symptoms? Thanks so much, Cheryl Jazzar >
Guest guest
Hi Cheryl - Thanks for posting your concerns. We have discussed this quite a bit and would be happy to carry the discussion forward. Kindly look through our files on the website page first, under Ayurveda for After the Birth where you will find a number of articles and a folder specific to perinatal mood disorders. Also in the archives, if you search discussions under ppd, depression, mood disorders, etc, I believe you will find more explanation as we responded to questions. THen, let's have at it! AYurvedic principles for mood imbalances serve greatly, beginning with modified vata pacification routines and agni support. Do you have any familiarity with Ayurvedic lingo yet? ALso, I'm not sure what you mean by clinical nutrition. This means you are a registered dietitian? THe food piece is a very big one in supporting reversal, preventing, or creating mood imbalances. In the files you will find documents be sure to read including a " new " assessment " list which is in itself very revealing of the key issues to look at dietarily, and a foods by weeks postpartum piece also. If you only receive our mail in your inbox, you will need to go to the page www.perinatalayurveda and look to the left, you will see a button called files. From the webpage you can also find a little search box where you can put in y our key words. Let me know what you think? Guest guest
Dear Ysha, Thank you so much for your response. I am excited to read this seeming wealth of knowledge. I am an advocate for mothers experiencing mood changes. In the past, I have worked with Postpartum Support of Oklahoma and now am in the process of forming a perinatal support network in Georgia. I am a member of Postpartum Support International (www.postpartum.net). I am also writing a new blog on so-called 'alternative' treatment methods for PPMDs. I am not well versed in ayurveda, only a rough understanding. So, I will probably gain a lot of understanding by reading. Do you have a suggestion of something I can review before reading the posts to help in my understanding of the terminology used within your group? Thanks again, Ysha. ~~Cheryl Jazzar On Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 5:49 PM, Ysha Oakes <AyurDoulas wrote: > Hi Cheryl - > > Thanks for posting your concerns.
