Guest guest
You should probably be evaluated for mastitis, as it's not flu season anymore and these sound like classic symptoms. You do not have to stop nursing, in fact it's better to continue, but you should be evaluated. Mastitis needs to be treated, whether naturally or with antibiotics. *Wendy Gordon, CPM, LDM Professional Home Birth Midwife* Vivante Midwifery Portland, OR On Tue, Jul 1, 2008 at 8:18 AM, Andrea Joens <joensa wrote: > Hey Ysha, > Right know I am sick with the flu. Guest guest
Thank you for your responses. I had mastitis when my daughter was 3 weeks. She is now 17 months. This seems more like the stomach flu. I was throughing up for a couple days now I am just week and have a fever. Is it possible for the flu to lead to mastitis? And does mastitis happen this far into breast feeding... thank you, Annie --- On Tue, 7/1/08, VMYORK <VMYORK wrote: > VMYORK <VMYORK > Re: PerinatalAyurveda forum Question about sore breast and the flu > ayurveda > Tuesday, July 1, 2008, 11:48 AM > excellent answer Wendy! > > Vicky York, IBCLC, CPD > Postpartum Care Services > Portland, Oregon > http://mypeoplepc.com/members/vmyork/ > www.ikarma.com/user/vmyork > - > Wendy (Hughes) Gordon > ayurveda > Tuesday, July 01, 2008 10:34 AM > Re: PerinatalAyurveda forum Question about sore > breast and the flu > > > You should probably be evaluated for mastitis, as > it's not flu season > anymore and these sound like classic symptoms. Guest guest
Mastitis has flu-like symptoms, especially headache and joint pains and fever. You may have a pounding headache. Not so much vomiting though. But flu doesn't turn into mastitis. Check the sore breast for a red splotch and feel for a lump. Put hot packs on it and massage; if you can't resolve it within 24 hrs. you have to get a prescription for antibiotics. Start doing garlic and vit. c and whatever Ysha suggests for infection, but don't delay seeing the dr if it doesn't resolve. Keep nursing on that side, especially. My left breast is very sore. Is this anything to worry about. Slightly radical thinking here, but investigate if stress is the cause of both flue and sore breast, the author suspects so because only left breast is involved. When he used to get patients with low grade fever, headache, migraine, palpitations, he too used to get confused!
