I made a smoothie/lassi type of a drink the other day and want to get

input of food combo and if it seems appropriate postpartum.

I used about 1/4 c. canned coconut milk, 1/2 c. water, banana, some

mango and a pinch of powdered ginger. no ice or anythig frozen here of

course.

Also, I was wondering if milk is appropriate to use when a person has

candida or a yeast infection? I read in one Ayurvedic book it was but

want to be sure.

Thanks,

Sonya

Hello sonya,

According to ayurveda, milk+fruit combination is viruddha (toxic), but using

coconut milk is really a good option. Adding ginger make sense, because it

will balance kapha without increasing pitta. Though ginger is katu

(pungent) in taste, its vipaka (effective taste-after digestion) is madhur

(sweet). Regarding candida or a yeast, one can have milk unless he/she has

too much kapha.

I didn't do my Ayurveda reading yet so obviously I have to laugh at myself when

trying to understand all these new terms. You all are to be applauded for your

knowledge.

In Dr. Lad's book Ayurvedic Cooking for Self-Healing, he has a

precaution: " Do no take any liquids until at least an hour after

eating a banana. "

You can make your own coconut milk by pureeing equal parts water and

grated coconut in a blender. Let stand for about 30 minutes. Strain

through cheesecloth, gather the corners of the cloth and squeeze as

much of the liquid as you can.
