Guest guest
Hi Y'all - The milk fever as Vicky discussed, is just good to know about so Mom doesn't get worried she is getting sick. I remember with my first baby thinking, OH NO! I don't have time to get sick! Then it passed. Every client I have had with mastitis and all the references I've found on it in midwifery and Ayurvedic reference indicate #1 issue is DOING TOO MUCH. THat would go along with Vicky's discussion of the body not being able to deal with latching and bacteria so well (overworked, not in self-restoring mode), though cracked nipples contribution makes sense too. It is not something I have worked with often, so what is the percentage I have to take from more experienced - midwives, lactation consultants, etc. Our culture does not realize the extent of the invisible work a mother's body has to do after childbirth. We may be able to even brush our hair (often don't!), maybe even shower and put some pretty clothes on that hide the still too big belly, but it doesn't mean we are ready for work or socializing. Some of my clients wear a nightgown for several weeks to remind the family and guests, this is a sacred time for inner work and baby care, not anything else. So many are driven to proove how strong and willing to do what it takes, they take on WAY TOO MUCH too soon, and the price is simply there built in to the physiological needs and pacing. Research shows, as Adrienne posted somewhere on this forum a couple years ago, that we live on cortisol the first few days/week or more, to be sure Baby's needs can be taken care of naturally. Ayurveda understands the need to provide maternal the support also right away, with reminders to take the body into restoring, " healing " , rejuvenation style of functioniong instead of the fight or flight mode of the cortisol hormone, in order to give best maternal care not just in short term but for the next " 42 years " . Blessings; Ysha > Milk fever is usually in reference to the coming in of the milk on the 3rd day. Moms sometimes have a passing fever while the breast become
