Dear Ayurdoulas and Dr.Thite,

Its been a while since I updated about Shreya. Shreya is a little over

4 months and she is doing fine overall. The mother-in-law left for

India last month and ever since its difficult for us to manage with

cooking and other chores :).

1) Our goal is that Shreya continues to be breast fed as long as

possible. We have been using Dill leaves, Fenugreek , garlic and Ajwan

seeds tea in the mother's diet along with the famous " organic mother's

milk tea " . My wife has finished Saubhagya Shunti and gondh-ke-laddoo

course. The problem is its not always easy for us to cook fresh Indian

food at home. Indian restaurants in US use lot of oil and refined

flour in their cooking. What ready-to-eat healthy food or even snacks

can one buy to keep the milk supply going ? Are fruits, nuts okay ?

2) Chick pea flour( besan ) is causing allergy for the baby and she

develops rashes whenever we use besan. Any other natural alternatives ?

Which oil is best for massaging the baby ? We were using coconut oil

ininitially and then switched to olive oil.

3) What can be given to babies for colic/wind and fussiness ?Are over-

the-counter supplements like Dabur Janma Ghuti helpful ?

Thanks ans regards,

Jai

Dear Jai -

This is a good goal, they are lucky you are watching out for your

family here. As I'm traveling for 2 days leaveing in few minutes,

others will have to begin this discussion. The mother's milk tea,

does it have Blessed Thistle in it? This is a strong herb for

lactation in western use BUT it is a bitter and as it sounds Mom still

has much vata, we favor Shatavari and perhaps some ashwaghanda for her.

Barley flour is a good substitute for the besan for after the oil

massage. There are gentle soaps also, such as made by Weleda, for

baby. Sounds like Baby Shreya has some strong pitta which, even more

with warmer weather coming on you will need to watch for in Mama's

diet including perhaps lighter spicing. SHatavari is a nice pitta and

reproductive system rejuvenator also.

A jar of curry powder, without chiles, may be a good support to simply

warm in ghee with garlic, maybe extra cumin, for simple seasoning of a

khichadi or vegetable dish. CHapatti can be purchased here, as well

as really easily made enough to just roll out a few from a ball of

dough for each day.

Personally do not know what is Saubhagya Shunti and gondh-ke-laddoo

> course. Definitely sweet fresh fruits as long as not chilled, and

well chewed nuts (not large amount, but enjoy) are very good

postpartum foods within the first weeks postpartum as desired. Soak

them, as well as dried fruits for even more digestible snacks. Panir

may feel very good to her. Where are you located depends what other

foods we most easily can talk about. I would lean on crock pot,

pressure cooker, stainless rice cooker, and thermous for simplifying

meal and teas prep also.

Namaste;

YSha
