Guest guest
Namaste group: My sister is 37 weeks pregnant. She is 34 years old and has itchy skin. This condition is called PUPPP Pruritic Urticarial Papules & Plaques of Pregnancy. Its all over her stomach, thighs, arms and hands. It looks like red bumps or bug bites and It itches like crazy. Her Ob asked her to apply Hydocortizone cream on it. She also take Bendryl orally. Nothing seems to be helping. Even the Oatmeal Baths don't help. Can ayurveda recommend anything for her? Thanks for all your help. Dhara ______________________________\ ____ Never miss a thing. Make your home page. http://www./r/hs
Guest guest
Itch is a symptom, body's alarm, suppressing it is not a good idea with Hydrocortizone, a steroidal cream. Immune system should not be manipulated this way, especially at the time when its protection is needed to a maximum, you being close to D- day. The ayurvedic way is to use Tulsi juice or mint (Pudina) juice on itchy areas for relief. External application of Neem oil, Karanj oil or (coconut oil mixed with a little crushed camphor) will give relief, without causing any harm to the new life ticking inside. The steroidal cream will suppress itch as long as you keep applying it, just as tylenol gives relief. The root cause remains. Find if she is allergic to any of her diet items according to: ayurveda/message/4511 ayurveda/message/3055 The itch is often the result of bodies adjustment with the growing skin areas as baby wants more room. This type of postings are available in archives on ayurveda group. ________________________ She is 34 years old and has itchy skin. Guest guest
Dr Bhate, is this woman in late pregnancy allowed any of the usual strong anti-pitta and anti itch foods like cilantro, coconut, pomegranate or would the herb manjista be supportive? My instinct would be enjoying abundant cilantro in something like a nourishing pesto so the vata isn't aggravated, or even with little fresh ginger, coconut, lime, touch of sweet, and salt a couple times daily, pureed and served with food 1-2 Tbs. We have beetter access to fresh cilantro than fresh tulsi; it is my understanding this also can be used topical for rashes, eruptions and itchiness being nicely antimicrobial, cooling, and antiinflamatory too I think. Juice of fresh or packaged is available many places, young coconut water and meat comes to mind as supportive. Not knowing the described issue by name, can only immagine by symptom. There are antiinflammatory essential oils, even organic lavender has antimicrobial and anti-itch effect also, nice a little dilute with coconut oil. We do have neem oil in health food stores, and by mail order, rich in antimicrobial and skin supportive effects. Best; Ysha > Itch is a symptom, body's alarm, suppressing it is not a good idea > with Hydrocortizone, a steroidal cream.

A chutney served in indian kitchens (especially in Maharashtra) has same ingredients mentioned by you! > We have beetter access to fresh > cilantro than fresh tulsi; it is my understanding this also can be > used topical for rashes, eruptions and itchiness being nicely > antimicrobial, cooling, and antiinflamatory too I think. Cilantro needs to be given highest respect since in addition to the properties mentioned by you, it also chelates mercury poisoning (vaccines, amalgam fillings etc)! Guest guest
Hi Shirish - I did not reinvent the wheel here (though I consider a cilantro chutney a major spoke in the weel of good and delicious nutritioin!). Learned something like this from several Indian cooks, of course! WArmly, Ysha > > A chutney served in indian kitchens (especially in Maharashtra) has > same ingredients mentioned by you!
