Hi Patti;

I've just sent her sis a note and will get in touch with you shortly

by phone about herbs. Thanks for your quick reply. We are still

looking for someone to do ayurvedic massage treatments for her there.

If you know someone who does regular PK treatments, available for

some home visits I can coach them a bit, though an Ayurvedic Doula

would be much better, the home consulting daily around ayurvedic

explanations and timely tips for postpartum is definitely a big piece

and can show the client's mind into much deeper trust and ease.

Dear Ones,

My heart goes out to this woman and her family. I

pray that she is better soon.

I was just in Los Angeles two weeks ago and made some

contacts with Ayurvedic practitioners. I the

opportunity to see James Bailey, in Santa Monica, who

is one that Patti mentioned. His sattvic nature was

healing to be near. He could not have been better in

any regard. My husband joined me in the appointment

and we were both impressed by him. His phone number

is 310.393.4124. His email address is

james and website is www.sevanti.com.

I also met a massage therapist who is a clinical

ayurveda specialist named Shannon Kennedy. She's also

extraordinary. Her clinic is in Newport Beach, which

may be far, but she also said she's well connected.

Her phone number is 949.644.4566 and website is

www.medicalayurveda.com. Again, her presence and

heartful approach would be a gift to anyone.

If these practitioners cannot offer what is needed, my

guess is they could be excellent resources.

My prayers for this woman and family will continue in

my heart.

with love,

Dear Vicky;

Love to see our article, and please feel free to post the name of this

contact for the LA area; I'll be happy to share. The bottom line is

the client has to make her own hopefully informed decisions who she

feels best working with.

It is also quite true that these issues are very much what we address.

And as you and I have discussed before, although there are different

aspects which manifest when vata is out of balance in different

systems, all these PMD - postpartum mood disorders as they are

officially called, have their root in poor digestion. It would be of

great interest to us all, I expect, to see an ayurvedic practitioner's

explanation of the different moods involved and which subdoshas,

herbs like that are indicated.

In the meantime, we find great ease for the mothers just beginning to

balance the root causes. The common ideas around what is " good

nutrition " of course, are also part of the problem and why ayurvedic

guidance and cooking is so valuable, although as you can see, we bring

in all our tools for best results, ans still have to offer the

licensed network/referrals in terms of who can take legal responsibility.

We also find it is paramount for the mother to understand that

although her symptoms are manifesting like mental illness, it is

physical and best managed with physical support modalities unlike

these symptoms at most other times which need more focus on the

psychoactive influences(alongside in both cases of course, the very

important TLC). Are you familiar with Jeannie Driscoll's work

(founder of DAD, the Depression After Delivery program)? Otherwise

they think they need to see a shrink, etc and the rapid results from

correct care, rest and foods gets ignored thinking the real problem is

psychoemotional.

It is truely amazing, as you said, how mothers with these experiences

tend to blame themselves, or try to find what they are doing wrong,

and feel alone. The aloneness and sadness, fear, anxiety, blues,

obsessive/compulsive, low appetite, depression, yes even psychosis

have their roots in the physical changes going on specifically so much

about what Ayurveda calls vata imbalances, and their influence also on

hormones, nervous system, emotions and mind. So many just think it is

all caused by hormonal changes too.

all the wonderful care she will get, and in fact I believe it to be

more important than counseling. A good PMD counselor, though, will

give her some help on the phone and perhaps only need one visit for

now. She needs validation that perinatal mood disorder is an illness

and that she is not alone with it, that she is not to blame (so many

Dear Patti;

Without using their names, would you be so kind as to share your

experience with this family? I'm expecting it was full of

unexpecteds and probably challenges, also hoping they were able to

gather good care for the mother.

Hi Ysha,

Happy New Year!

Unfortunately, it never happened. The mom wasn't open to receiving

the help. We do what we can!!!

Blissfully,

Patti

THanks Patti;

It really wasn't a surprise. It was her sis that was inspired to use

Ayurveda, and wanted so much to help. Thanks for being available. I'm

sure she plugged into the mainstream network that Vicky referred to if

it got too rough.

Warm Regards;

Ysha
