Guest guest
Hello, Saw you mail. As your baby is a bit pre term i.e. 3 weeks it is but natural that the fineness in his activiies will be lacking as afact when the baby will be 2-3 weeks late in its milestones, so don't worry it is natural. you will have to take some efforts in training the baby to suck properly. some common tips - - ask the mother to feed the baby conciously. - if the baby is following asleep wake him immediately by stimulating his feet/ his lips/ chin/ palm, etc. - shoubhagya shunthi pak is a good medicine for her, your mother - in - law is giving proper food, don't worry. - the baby is going to loose some weight after birth for 1st 5 days atleast (it should not be more than 30 gms / day, but start gaining after wards - 30 gms / day approx. VAIDYA TUSHAR SURYAVANSHI VISHVAGANDHA CHIKITSAKENDRA & AYURVEDA HOSPITAL NASHIK email - vishwa_ayur/ vishwa_ayur/ info Dear Desert Thought;' It has been at least a week since you posted? HOpefully you have resolved this challenge with successful nursing; the help of the La Leche League in most towns and cities may be a Godsend, if you cannot arrange for support from a Lactation consultant. IN meantime if baby is still lethargic, doctors probably have been working with you all? Midwives often in this situation will not only stimulate as Vaidya Tushar above has discussed, but undress to help wake the baby, and even use a little cool water on feet or as needed to stimulate. They also will give a little molasses water to give baby blood sugars to have energy to nurse f they get really weak. but if the problem is the latch, one must evaluate also if tongue tie or just not taking enough of the breast, nipple shape one, all these and other things may be involved. There are others online more expert on these things. Have you been in contact with someone to help? To minimize formula, Mom should definitely be both pumping to stimulate after she finishes nursing, and taking good galactagogue herbs as well as the recommended foods (see our files section), warm oil abhyanga (self administered if no experienced Indian mother or Ayurvedic Doula is available, and hot baths for herself daily among other recommendations. Milk supply WILL be lessor until a proactive effort to bring it back up to replace the formula is made, and as she fortunately wants to be just nursing your baby, we especially want to support you in that! 1)The baby does not latch on to the breasts easily and just falls asleep. The pediatrician says its because of the warmth the mother gives to the baby. So unfortunately my daughter is fed an infant formula. We have tried several methods to try making the baby latch to the mother but were unsuccessful. Hopefully there has been response? I " m concerned at no apparent response before now to your reqest. I continue to be long days involved in a training and besides, though experienced postpartum care professional, am not the vaidya you asked for. We have online several very qualified to be of significant support, including women trained in lactation concerns as you have enquired, nurses, midwives etc. Also her breasts have become heavy and painful. The baby is also a slow eater when it comes to eating infant formula. It takes about 30 mins to finish 30-35 ml of formula and the pediatrician is a little concerned about the slow eating. Some babies take 30 minutes at the breast also to nurse, there are different style eaters, this is normal. Some are done in 5-10 minutes. The formula as you must know is very hard on the digestive system and likely to be crating much gas and discomfort, motivating Mother to find ways to increase her supply and let down, as discussed some days ago. 2) My mother-in-law who came from India is taking care of all the kitchen activities and taking care of the new mom. The diet she is currently on is kind of soupy ( like diluted toor dal with sauted garlic and cummin )and supposedly easily digestible mashed food . This is excellent and very important. Lots of the well sauted garlic, ginger, cumin, other carminitive herbs, lots of ghee/good quality oil, very moist foods for now, her agni was very weak after the birth and takes some weeks under such wise and careful nourishment to come back to normal and be able to rejuvenate her body with all the deeper including reproductive tissues properly. My wife is not allowed to go out in the air and wearing a scarf all the time. She is also been given coriander/cummin/ fenugreek/ ajwan tea. My mother-in-law is not an Ayurvedic expert and has following just the " old Indian tradition " . Many of the old Indian traditions are quite fortunately still alive. If your wife craves to go out, then in quiet beautiful place that is not busy, windy, and just for the joy of it for few minutes. Otherwise it is Better to be reclusive some time. So I'm not sure how effective is the diet. She was saying after the 11th day she is going to give a lehya ( jam ) called " Saubhagya Shunti " . Its a pretty popular lehya in Bangalore. Any comments on the diet ? Any changes required ? Though I don't know all the preparations she is using by name, obviously your mother in law has a good idea of some very important rejuvenative and lactation needs at this time. Please search the archives for more detail in discussions by myself, Dr. Bhate, Dr. Thite and otehrs on postpartum nutrition. This woman is a wise woman, protecting your wife's health and ability to mother and partner well for long time to come.
