Guest guest
Hello DT, I am not a Vaidya but I am an Ayurvedic postpartm doula trained under the guidance of Ysha. It sounds as though your mother is doing a great job with cooking appropiate foods for postpartum already. the foods need to be vata pacifying wet, warm, oily and have sweet, sour and salty tastes. Good options for the first 10 days after having the baby are kichari, dahls, puddings, hot milk with chai spices and ample ghee added to food prep as well as 1 tsp added to the milk. You may visit my website for a more comprehensive view of foods to minimize or avoid. my website is www.mettadoula.com or try www.sacredwindow.com Since the baby is early he/she will not be as avid of a nurser in the beginning. If your wife's milk is now in I would reccomend that she express a small amount on the nipple when she is going to feed the baby to see if she can get more of an interest from the baby in nursing a little expression will make the breast softer as well making it easier for the baby to latch on if they are too hard. I would also consider pumping and replacing the formula with breast milk if you have not already done so and try using a dropper or sns with a pinky finger during the baby's feedings so that she doesnt get used to a bottle and has to work a little more for the milk. If you are still at the hospital or have a way to contact a lactation consultant they are very helpful with breastfeeding issues. Hopefully Vicky York will see this post and have a response for you she is lactation consultant on this site. I hope some of this helps. Take care, Sonya
