Guest guest
I'm coming out of lurk mode to ask a question about the Ayurvedic effects of lemon verbena essential oil taken internally. (Some say distinctly " verbena oil " , NOT " lemon verbena oil " , and I would love thoughts about both if indeed the actions are different.) This is a cocktail that is being discussed right now on a Canadian/ American perinatal discussion group, mostly amongst the Canadian midwives, as an effective way to stimulate the onset of labor contractions: a concoction of two tablespoons of almond butter, two tablespoons of castor oil, one cup of apricot nectar and last, but not least, 5 drops of an essential oil of lemon verbena Castor oil has been used for ages to try to start labor, but this is the first I've heard about lemon verbena oil. The midwives discussing it seem to feel that it is the verbena oil that makes it so effective. I am very curious to know what this group would say about such a cocktail and if you can give any insights into why it might be useful in stimulating labor. Thank you... -- Wendy Hughes, CPM, LDM Professional Home Birth Midwife Infant CranioSacral Therapy Vivante Midwifery Portland, OR www.VivanteMidwifery.com
