Guest guest
Dear Friends; Last WEekend over 300 people met in Albuquerque, NMexico for the 5th annual National Ayurvedic Medical Conference. It was a wonderful opportunity study in concentrated well organized format with many of the best teachers in Ayurveda for both introductory and advanced students of Ayurveda. Included also special presentations in Jyotish astrology, Sound (Nada) yoga, Yoga and AYurveda, free practitioner events and vendors showing the best in quality of ayurvedic products. Nataraj Books who carries all Ayurvedic titles available in the west and many from India always has a table. Tastes of the most wonderfully prepared Ayurvedic herbalized ghees, new do it yourself all copper shirodara equipment, essential oils, ghee made from grass fed cows authentically churned (what a difference!), free samples of herbs and herbalized oils, and new easy for clients' use during panchakarma (et al) packets for easy meal prep with seasonings were demonstrated among many other things. CDs of the talks are available (contact www.Ayurveda-NAMA.org of your choice-$13 each for most of them -for the list, probably not on their website) or all of them (for less than 1/2 the cost of attending!) Dr.s Lad, Svoboda and Frawley all spoke Saturday night inclusive of generous Sanskrit chanting and interpretation of Ayurvedic slokas. RamaKant Mishra graced the weekend and spoke as well. Diagnostics; Research papers on Ayurveda; Neurotransmitters; Spiritual Emergence, many great topics with Ayurvedic emphasis. Several Women Vaidyas - Dr. Jay Apte included, are becoimng more visible and contributing in significant way to the knowledge and beauty of the community. It was wonderful to be exposed to somne very strong, clear voices I had not known of before, and see the clinical work in Ayurveda in many parts of this country. I also sat at a table with several of them listening to the very honest discussion of place to step back from all the opportunities to teach and serve as a practitioner in order to take better care of themselves and their families. I appreciated hearing this, often recognizing this dynamic is essential component of truely serving in our best way, and often doing the same thing myself. Yours truly felt humbled among so many great teachers, and must honestly say there are others who could represent it better but perhaps because they are serving a broader health audience, they are not doing. Anyone wanting to see notes and the proceedings paper for my talk on perinatal nutrition, sourced from many teachers including several of our dear forum members, watch for posting soon in the files section. In the perinatal arena, we had one Pediatrition speak whose talk I will report on when receiving the CD (too many choices!). Dr. Lad on 2 occasions at least offered some very interesting information on conception, development of the fetus, pulse assessments and other tidbits as part of a broader discussion. His loving clarity and example of enlightened vata creative style was available on several occasions along with opportunity to meet him on the floor and receive his blessings. Dr. John Doullard spoke as always entertainingly and with the voice of experience as father of 6! on Ayurveda for your school children. Dr. LeAnne Batdorff was a special find! Several years ago I heard ofher skills with the pulse for pregnant mothers; she can even tell, for instance, if there is meconium in the waters before delivery and give other important assessments and recommendations about the birth. I was very excited to discover her name and that she teaches this pulse work at her clinic/school in northern California, http://www.dhyanacenter.com. Her ability to speak to the client in terms understandable and invoking their more willing participation in their health care was very evident. Her focus includes strong detailed discernments about which of the 20 gunas is involved in each pulse/level/dosha to determine in greater detail what type of tissue/organ etc imbalance is involved and target diet as well as other lifestyle, cleansing, and herbal recommendations may be most effective. Back to the work at hand, I offer this with my warm respects; Ysha

Guest guest
Dear Patti! Don't know if I mentioned, but the Conference Proceedings journal is also available if you contact www.ayurveda-NAMA.org. Most of the presenters submitted papers rich in valuable information for practitioners and students of Ayurveda; I just had to tear my self away from it and get back to my desk! It will be great to have you doing the menu - when did you do it last? Warm Regards; Ysha > so it's nice to get an update and hear that the conference has > continued to grow and the quality just seems to get better and better.
