Guest guest
Dear Lexi; Thanks so much for sharing this well spoken info. And Claudia's website; she is a wonderful teacher about women's health and Ayurveda. >Warmed spiced milk at night will also be good to bring that vata back down. Maybe even Ysha's warmed garlic milk? (Ysha?) The spiced milk with a tsp or more of ghee and shatavari added usually does wonders. The garlic milk recipe would be fine too. For some this is a way milk sits well when no other dairy does! It is not my recipe, it is from Dr. Vasant Lad. 1 c in this case lowfat milk he uses, 1/4 cup water, 1 medium clove fresh garlic, sliced thin, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, and 1-2 pinches cardamom. Boil garlic in water to cook down some, then add milk and other spices. Bring back to boil three times (per Dr. Mishra, and this really helps reduce phlegm even more!) and enjoy. Garlic, boiling, turmeric, and cardamom all reduce phlegm. Used even with breast and lung cancer patients. > > If anemia is the cause, .... taking 7 tablespoons of honey 3 days in a row is supposed to help (I have never tried this but was taught this is a good remedy). OH interesting!! And anyone know why this might work? Can it be about the rasa (lymph) and rakta (blood) agnis (enzyme processes) being assisted to burn ama (wastes) at that tissue level? We know honey helps burn fat but ...??? > I have been told that meditating during menstruation is not the best idea since the energy in meditation is moving upwards (or can do this) so either suggesting to do slow, deep, pelvic breathing during Your other suggestions are good too. Some meditation techniques like TM are gentle and integrative enough instead of focusing energy just upwards that they are still appropriate. Alternate nostril pranayama without breath retentions is calming and soothing. > That little basti is very good; and so much easier and more settling than the big water based enemas used in the west. > > ... cramps and pms): rub castor oil on the abdomen, put a piece of flannel on top and lay a hot water bottle on top of this. Your client should then lay down for about 1-1.5 hours and just relax. ... She should do this every day for a month or 2 before her cycle begins but not during her cycle. Her cycle may be intense and even painful when And how many women will do this, undoubtedly many are thinking. High vata women will certainly benefit, and they may be able to do some gentle mantra meditation while laying down. Alternately more realistic may be to suggest at least 1X a week this, the other days sit and work quietly with the castor oil and heat pack held in place by a wrap. Guest guest
OH, a clarification is needed here. For so many years, for some of us it has been the routine to meditate once or usually twice a day. To have to put so much time into another self care special project like these castor oil packs is particularly intimidating to those who are already working against the collective consciousness to do either such make time in our lives for such things. My comments about meditating lying down during this castor oil therapy reflect on the time I had to do this, with a special tx for dissolving a cervical growth requiring prone position for 1/2 hour or more twice a day. Bedtime was easy, but ams? It seems I needed that extra time to integrate spiritually lying down instead of sitting was very beneficial after such vata and pitta in my system at that time. - Ysha > vata women will certainly benefit, and they may be able to do some > gentle mantra meditation while laying down. Guest guest
Dear Friends; I will attempt to properly translate some of the ayurvedic doctor's vocabulary for our primarily young to ayurveda audience. > For delayed menses, firstly, attempt should be made to find the exact cause. There may be multiple causes. Menstruation is primarily related to the first dhatu (tissue) that is rasa dhatu.(this first tissue in the sequence of digestion and rejuvenation is roughly translated lymph, from which we make breast milk, menstrual fluids et al) There could be inadequate rasadhatu/ (insufficient proper nourishment and fluids) improper digestion of rasadhatu (it has its own enzyme processes/digestive fire or " agni " ) or a block in its flow (obstructions in any of the channels involved). Raja (menstrual > flow? yes, fluids) and stanya (breastmilk) are upadhatus (sub-dhatus -) of rasadhatu. > There could also be inadequate rakta dhatu (blood tissue, the 2nd tissue level in sequence of dhatu creation from their individual agnis)(which has direct relation to menses). Sometimes there is interference by other dhatus such as medodhatu > (fat tissue, the 4th layer, which is also involved in estrogen production). Excess fat may be a cause of this. (creating a type of obstruction?) >There could be inadequate or vitiated shukradhatu also (though there are difference of opinion about presence of shukradhatu in women) (We sometimes say " He " for male or female; in same way, sometimes generically shukradhatu is used for male or female reproductive tissues, the 7th and deepest tissue in sequence of digestion. There is a name for female specifically tissues, atharva. Because it is the last in the sequence, it is easily undernourished if digestive " fires " are not working at some step in the sequence, to say nothing of specific foods and herbs, lifestyle which can influence). >The other dhatus (mamsa asthi and majja)fhis is muscle, 3rd and marrow and nerve together are 6th layer/in the sequence) may also be considered, but these are rather remotely related. > I agree with Lexie regarding meditation and also use of basti and snehan swedan (oil MASSAGE/application and fomentation/often in form of steam bath or the hot water bottles) to normalize apana vata (again, the subdosha of vata governing downward actions/movements/functions/flows in the body, male or female. >One of our primary infertility patients had ovarian cysts and she was treated with panchankarmas and some herbs including Latakaranj and pushyanuga churna. Mike D, I still often have trouble using your database program (can't I keep a shortcut on my desktop for it?), can you explain these churnas, do we have another name for them or their properties/comparables? Cysts are so common among women in the west and I have question from an associate about this. > This gave excellent results, the cysts vanished, and she conceived after three months of treatment. Wonderful results! >In my opinion prolonged use of birth control methods may eventually hurt the whole reproductive system, but this could be a subject for another discussion . Yes!
