>Most people we see clinically have defective agni/digestion. Raw

foods are mostly, cold, dry, rough, and heavy on digestion. If a

person has little digestive capacity then the food remains undigested

Hi Mike - thanks for chiming in. It is so true, so much comes back to

quality of digestion. I spoke with a woman today preparing a green >

drink fo her family - raw collards, chard, banana, apple, other fruits

from a green foods cookbook! She did pay attention when I mentioned

food combining issues - avoidign the fruits with vegetables together -

and adding some fresh ginger if she wants to feel better balance with

it (fortunately she is not a recent postpartum mom, kids are grown)

but claims they have not had problems with gas from these kind of

things. Hard to believe, especially with my sensitive system, and

with my client experience...

It is not uncommon for my postpartum clients when asked how is their

digestion/tummy/elimination today, to say " Fine!, no problems! " then

pass gas while on the massage table, not realizing a) that they had

any and b) that it is a sign of some weakness or food

incompatibilities again giving weak digestion c) to say nothing of

possible other contributing factors. They also will have told me

often that they are following the dietary recs for postpartum

carefully, then under further discussion, for example, with an Indian

family, I was just hired for the mothers' massage during which I

always do a daily assessment/consult. The food and postpartum details

were being supervised by an elderly grandma whose memory,

understanding of the principles behind the traditions, eyesight and

ability to assist were very weak, inspite of dear, gentle and

experienced motherly presence, and the food was brought by a friend

who ran an Indian restaurant. Though promised to be adjusted for

postpartum, it contained onions, undercooked garlic, tomatoes, peas,

difficult to digest beans, poor quality fats most likely, was

stretched over 2-4 meals, etc. No wonder she and Baby were a little

uncomfortable!

>The diet for a blood type may work well for a constitutional

diet but it is unlikely to work for every disease that a person can

This is true with ayurvedic diets by body type also for many

imbalances and diseases, isnt' it?

>One writer, Donald Rudin, opines that processed foods are the main

enemy when nutrition is a concern and he points to many of the main

modern diseases. I routinely suggest all clients get off processed

Do you know the book " The Maker's Diet " ? Is this the one you refer

to? I think his name is Rubin.

>The Omega issue can be addressed by ingesting unprocessed foods (the

actual whole grain, and raw nuts) without eating dairy or meats.

This is more for maintenance than for correctives though, best I can

tell, and sounds like your focus is for vegans, not just vegetarian, a

whole 'nother discussion! I still question whether some body types can

do vegan very easily. I have met so many young people in particular

who are attempting to be vegan in the best of intents and conscience,

but becoming so vata deranged and EFA depleted they use more marijuana

to help maintain some experience of connectedness in their awareness,

and/or swing dramatically to eating mostly red meat, even some going

into the raw meat diet. I missed Amadea Morningstar's classes wherein

she described keys by the blood types for appropriate balance in order

to comfortably be vegetarian, and never got ahold of someone with

notes what with all else on my " to do " list.

Do you know her, having hung out in New Mexico for a number of years

yourself? Amadea is brilliant practitioner best I can tell, around

everything from ayurvedic herbs to juice therapies by very specific

formulations for specific diseases and vikrutis, to polarity therapy

and much more. She practiced for some years privately and when I met

her must be 8 years ago now, she was phasing out due to the strain on

family life, her work with ayurvedic cooking/cookbooks, and her work

with the polarity therapy institute there in Santa Fe area, NMexico.

When I was living in Boulder she taught at RMIYA and I enjoyed

listening to her and Saraswati discuss some unusual cases.

>and all the other features of dasha vidha pariksha.

would you kindly define the last three words?

Warm Regards;

Ysha
