Guest guest
Saroj, Searching the ayurveda forum I found a little discussion, with answers from it looks like two students of ayurvedic Yogi Bhajan - here is one with a little more info, a question I believe from our own group member Beeara? It sounds like not so much a " toxin " as a nutrient to be considered carefully, used judiciously if keeping vata in place is important. Namaste - Ysha > One question that is at the top of my mind is about almonds. I understand that soaking almonds helps to make them more digestable. I have learned from a nutritionist that as long as they are rinsed well the enzyme that prohibits digestion is washed off and therefore the peeling is not necessary. And yet, in so many of the Ayurvedic texts and recipes peeling seems to be important. > > Can anyone tell me whether it really is necessary for digestion? Sometimes peeling is easy but othertimes can be incredibly cumbersome. Re: Soaked and blanched almonds Beeara I have heard my teacher, Yogi Bhajan talk about almonds a few times. He said to always peel almonds. To do this soak the almonds and then peel them when they are plump. You can also do this by putting them in boiling water, peeling them and then soaking them to make them plump. He said that people who eat almonds with skins would look like an almond (wrinkly). The skin is bitter and astringent. He gave 2 exceptions. He said menstruating women should saute almonds in ghee or almond oil and then add a little honey in the morning. The other exception is women who have just delivered. Eat the same dish in the morning. The astringent skin helps pull the uterus back in place.
