Guest guest
Hi all, One of the new moms that I'm working with has been, since pregnancy of twins, been having odd sensations on the surface of her belly. Her skin has been feeling hypersensitive, raw and prickly to the touch. She's had a c-section but the scar is very low on the ab -- close to the groin line and it's been 3 weeks since the birth of her young ones. Any recommendations for topical applications and/or other treatments to help the nerves in that area to reset and soothe out a bit? Thanks for all the incredible information that keeps coming through this list. Blessings, Beeara Hi Beeara, As you must know, this is not uncommon experience with very stretchy tummy skin during pregnancy, especially with the western population which has not cared well for their skin. THis would in my opinion be an extension of it - and I'd be wanting to do careful assessment of her diet, fats, EFAs etc as well for backup. But with this postpartum, I'd be encouraging investment in Helichrysum oil, so rejuvenative for nerves, scar tissues and skin, as well as being so helpful for pain, antiinflammatory and moderately antiseptic. The bioconstituent for pain is not found in most brands, ie if not low temp/pressure distilled so I don't know the results to expect from other companies than Young Living. I would be adding helichrysum to some of Kristi Young's product (search our posts here for it, no relation to Young Living except she uses their oils in her products) to enhance the emollient and other healing supports, given your description of the intensity. If not so severe, of course you can try some ghee, or licorice ghee or open a vitamin E capsule and see what that does. Wonderful as always to hear from you! Guest guest
Raw, prickly hyper-sensitive skin of the belly is the result of anti- biotics used after C-section, to reduce the chances of infection. Trauma of cut and healing of cut section gives rise to this. Pricking is similar to astham/allergis causing prickly itch. Not only prickly, but even some itching with reddish rashes may be there. Topically, you may apply any of the following but names are mentioned in decreasingly useful order. 1. Jatyadi Tailam, Jatyadi Ghrut 2. Shatdhout Ghrut 3. Panchgun Tailam 4. Coconut oil Drink plentty of water, which is boiled out 25%, with 1 tsp of cumeen, fennel, coriander added before boiling. Another alternative is to drink heem of coriander seed, cumeen seeds and fennel seeds mentioned at: http://health.ayurveda/message/7720 This link also suggests food recommendations to avoid exacerbation of rashes, itching due to toxins given by antibiotics. antibiotics give rise to reddish patches, rashes, prickly spots and when patient tries to scratch the itchy areas reddish color appears. Body is trying to eliminate some toxic residues of antibiotics or histamines that way. A paste made by crushing camphor added with a little lemon juice to make smooth paste, can also be applied to relieve prickly heat. Instead of camphor, rock candy sugar will also work. For a person sitting at other end of globe, many suggestions need to be given, since individual's constitution and current state (vikruti) is unknown. Dr. Bhate Thanks for the reminder - In my humble practice I too have seen amazing results with this simple cumin/coriander/fennel tea for many issues related to skin and other high acidity or other toxins manifested - Ysha ayurveda , " B.
