Vicky If a pregnant woman suffers with severe nauses long-term beyond the first trimester, it's called " hyperemesis gravidarum " , if you want to research using a search engine. There's a few bits of info that I can offer in support: 1) A hypnotherapist can provide a self-hypnosis routine to be practiced every day - taking maybe 15 minutes daily. 2) A woman that I know who suffered with very severe nausea used the Sea Bands with success. Sea Bands are acupressure wrist bands, that you can buy at pharmacies and maybe even at places like Target. 3) Another woman told me that the ONLY thing that worked for her (and she tried homeopathy, acupuncture, herbs - everything that she found in her quest for help) was an essential oil. It only helped in the moment when she was experiencing the nauses; it didn't take care of the problem long term or even for the remainder of the day. Sorry I can't remember which oil she used! But according to the Essential Oils Desk Reference, peppermint & spearmint are recommended and can be used by diluting with a carrier oil for massage or putting a couple drops behind each ear in the mastoid area and over the navel 2-3 times daily. She would want to use therapeutic grade essential oils, not the ones that are used for fragrance. It must be miserable to suffer with this. Most nauses does disappear around the end of the first trimester; rarely does someone suffer severe nausea throughout her pregnancy. This too will pass. Guest guest
Hi SAroj; This blend we use called DiGize has mints, tarragon, fennel, anise, ginger, a couple other things in it, and has been the most effective I know for nausea among the essential oils. Dr Bhate, It is my unerstanding often nausea has to do with excess pitta (pitta ama?) combined with weakened agni? Is this something whch usually, between diet (like favoring coconut water, pomegranite, cilantro, fresh ginger, avoiding pungent/salty/sour/fried/heavy) and herbs can be addressed in pregnancy? Perhaps I err not having read your links, please forgive... Warm Regards; Ysha > 3) Another woman told me that the ONLY thing that worked for her > in her quest for help) was an essential oil. Guest guest
Hi Vicky -- Acupuncture can be very effective for many women. Is she also vomiting with the nausea, or is it just the nausea alone? Things like vitamin B6 and ginger typically work well for the garden variety morning sickness, but if it is extreme and she can't get or keep anything down orally, then it can become a bigger issue of dehydration, and that needs attention (IV fluids). I imagine that she has already worked to rid her surroundings of strong smells that trigger the nausea, getting plenty of fresh air, making sure someone else is doing the cooking or cleaning the litter box or changing diapers, etc... Hope something works for her!
