Guest guest
I am working with a client who has a 4 month old baby. He spits up all the time. We are working with her diet (pitta reducing) and getting her baby on a schedule of feeding 2-3 hours.Other things she chose to cut out of her diet are dairy, wheat, and sugar. I dont think that those things matter because he still spits up with them being eliminated for the past month. She is not a vegetarian and feels like she wants meat but she is not eating red meat or pork. I have her hold him at a 45 degree angle while nursing and after. She is vata/pitta and the baby definitely has pitta in his constitution. He is a big boy and gaining weight well. I have also recommended she do infant massage on him daily to relax him. He seems to hold tension to me. Any recommendations? Thanks Sonya HI Sonya - Does this baby spit up for night feedings also? What is the nursing situation - can she do it in quieter/soothing context with benefit? Yes, digestion and food combining is probably big issue especially if you are just beginning care, and she has these no dairy or sweets ideas so strong (any sugar?). If possible, try organic chicken in soup, you know like early postpartum back track to see what works. Also, you didn't mention how much air the baby takes in with possible strong let down flow gulping. Gaining well is good sign not to worry so much and reduce possible overfilling from anxieties. Massage excellent, let us know how it goes? Of course if you have it, a little calming oil, fennel, DiGize, Chamomile, or Nutmeg is likely to be helpful, on tummy and/or his feet, slightly dilute. (Sonya) P.S. I took my client with the hard breast to see Alakananda today she recommended castor oil packs and prescribed some vata pacifying herbs. I can't remeber the herbs off the top of my head but will let you know. SHe didn't want to do anything internally for the breast since vata is so deranged she felt herbs for the breast would increase the vata too much. Thanks for sharing this learning curve with us...I'm glad Alecananda is on the team. Warm REgards; Ysha
Guest guest
Ok, sorry, but " here I go. " The first thing that came to me was " what is the spitting up serving? " and then I read the baby's weight gain is good. What if he doesn't need it and gets rid of it? I trust the innner wisdom/body wisdom of the baby -- like when a baby is prematurely trying to get out of the womb, there is a purpose, a reason, the womb is somehow toxic. etc. Again, the mother centered in her CNS, doula centered, and in communication with the baby could yield some pretty important info. Working with babies I have learned to get my self out of it and am constantly amazed at how, mother or baby say or do something, mother gets an inspiration, and I think, " wow, I woulda never thought of that. " my two cents, janel > I am working with a client who has a 4 month old baby. He spits up
Guest guest
Sonya: To me it sounds like he is being fed too often for 4 months of age. Every 3 hours would probably be fine. Then he needs to be burped really well before being put down. Also she may be feeding him whenever he cries out of fatigue just to top him off a little. That makes overwt., uncomfortable and spitty babies.
