Guest guest
Janel, Gentian Violet is what you are trying to recall. It works for some and not others and it is messy and will stain so have the mom be careful. If you look also in the archives from around Jan or Feb 06 Ysha had a whole bunch of resources. Mom and baby should take probiotics. Mom should also avoid sweets so she doesn't get it too and make it worse for baby. I start using more coconut oil and olive oil for mom instead of ghee (I don't cook with the olive oil). I have read that cold pressed olive oil not cooked inhibits the growth of yeast. I also cook with more garlic, ginger, oregano, basil and turmeric. I make stewed apples with clove and anything that gets things moving in the intestinal tract since that is where it all thrives and grows. When a baby or mom has thrush usually the immune system is compromised so building up the immune system is important and I feel getting adequate rest is very beneficial. I t is easily passed back and forth from mom to baby. If mom has it too it her nipples will be very tender and it will hurt when baby latches and it will hurt throughout the feeding. It is a lot easier to clear up in the baby than the mom. Nipples should be kept clean and dry and given air time. Nursing pads, bras, pacifiers, pump parts etc. should be sterilized regularly to avoid becoming re- infected. The mom could also do vinegar wash, I have also seen baking soda paste from one source and I haven't had a client who has tried it but I remember that turmeric on the nipples may be helpful. I have also read that doing a mouthwash of 1/8 tsp. lactobacillus with 1/2c. water is helpful for the baby. Use an eye dropper and squirt the solution on the gums, cheeks and tongue. Ask Ysha what she thinks of the mom doing grapefruit essential oil internally for the problem. Just a thought. Hope some of this is helpful, Sonya
Guest guest
Hi JAnel Warm sesame oil or sesame and coconut oil massage daily for Baby!!! After the missing birth canal healthy pressures to digestive/circulatory/lung and other systems, the massage serves not just the loveing bonding extension and deepening, but very important life function strengthening missed particularly if it was a planned c without labor's massage. Forgive my other post contained rambles beyond appropriate for your client, although much value too if you are beginning to study the basic principles of ayurveda for mothers after birth. Take care of MOM and she takes best care of Baby! Keywords, especially extra extra important for after csection - REST, warmth, oiliness, moisture, simplicity, mothering the mother. Favoring non-yeast supportive sweet tastes, sour and salty, though all 6 are important. See the foods cooking for postpartum in the files, and with yeast lean away from so much diary for her favoring more roasted tahini/other nut milks and sauces, more on sesame oil and coconut oil (both with some anticandida effects) instead of the heavy ghee usually recommended in her nutrition. As Shirish mentioned, green veggies (see favored including asparagus and zucchini cooked with a mild curry powder is easy way to satisfy tastes and herbal seasoning balance. GENEROUS use at this time of fresh minced garlic, gently browned then served with vegetables, dhals, whatever, as a chutney even but well cooked. As she prefers the fresh sweet fruits, offer them, tho digestion may ask for a while yet more stewed. Our pumpkin pie type and chai type spices are very helpful here, not just for taste. Search this forum possibly files as thrush/candida also for more discussions also on good probiotic supports to rebuild. Dr. Saraswati Buhrman works with many such clients and prefers a broad spectrum protiotic inclusive of what they call soil based organisms (found on healthy raw foods) such as " Friendly Colonizer " brand from 800-469-2290. I would definitely be using essential oils with her if she can afford to protect immune system from slipping again while clearing the thrush while she learns more healthy ways for her and baby. Simple way, the Thieves blend can be taken in capsules as well as applied topical, contains several in one (dilute slightly 1:1 or 1:2 to be cautious). Janel, did you receive the essential oils document sent privately yesterday? This one on essential oils, offering other classes in this format shortly. Pitta ama being usually involved I always look to chamomile oil among baby's supports. It tastes bitter but not extreme like grapefruit seed extract, is cooling and calming, carminative and can choose to blend with warming ones and/or coconut oil. The tea is not effective, over 95% of the essential oils get evaporated from dried herbs. (Ayurvedic herbs including turmeric to use well in maternal foods are more nutritive in other ways, usually from more nutrient dense roots/barks/seeds instead of leaves and flowers.) > > any other suggestions for a baby, four weeks old, born c- > section, mother had a lot of antibiotics for infection, baby too. Mother also despirately needs warm oil applicaitons, similar sequence as described for baby. Keep room warm, keep her covered from slightest even warm draft. Repetitive, loving, simple strokes, no music, just let her awareness go in, strengthening mind-body re-coordination while supporting movement of lymph, circulation, all systems, waste elimination etc at this time when exercise is not appropriate choice. Repeating applications of soothing connectedness from both warm oil and warm loving touch. Let her help decide if she needs the cooling balance energetically of coconut or prefers the usual sesame. This will powerfully strengthen the natural maternal experience of connectedness with all creation, essential for healing the disturbed bonding timing from surgery's processes, feelings of failure, insecurities as well as lipid nutritional needs from hormonal imbalances, even if Baby was brought to Mom right away. Rather disorderly listing of info, but should help. There is more, of course. If she gets a taste of things that help, she may be willing to reach for and do more. Guest guest
Thanks! My daughter came down with a cold on our twelve hour road trip today and the dog has something funky going on his hind quarters. Both are getting coconut treatment tomorrow. I have virgin coconut oil on hand. I'll let you know. -- In ayurveda , " Shirish Bhate " <shirishbhate wrote: > > An alternative to that " violet something " is proposed here: > > You've probably heard that breast milk is jam-packed with nutrients
Guest guest
Thank you everyone for the info -- so amazing. Thanks, Ysha. I'll pass this along to her tomorrow. Her mother and father are taking turns staying with her and baby -- she has lots of care. Maybe this info will be useful to her mother, a nurse. janel

Guest guest
Dear Janel You asked a very good question. Answer is equally simple. If you wish to build immune system, take what God offers, not what industry offers. Here God means all plants, cows, animals. Indian cow is such an excpetional animal. Will not release milk until calf is fed first. All vegetables, fruits, fresh raw milks (includes breast milk of a mother eating greens) build immunity. will not cause cravings as all such products churned out by God are complete in every respect. Finally, the author offers a " treat " to all mother members of this group: http://health.ayurveda/message/6632 http://health.ayurveda/message/6650 All glycosugars thump thymus gland! they cause goose bumps sometimes.
