We have not begun to discuss the ayurvedic approach to what babies want. It is a wonderful topic, I enjoyed sitting in on a day of class with Ayurvedic midwife Terra Raphael of Boulder, Colorado (www.wisewomanhood.com)reviewing and learning new things. Babies do let us know what they want and need by changing our physiology - hence different appetites. They definitely want good quality nourishment in addition to loving relationships. Dr. Lad recommends during the pregnancy to lean the food choices according to the mothers' condition at the time, not according to her body type so much, because this way she can fill this particular developing soul's needs and karmic pattern desires also. But if the craving is not generally considered healthy, the advice is to eat a little and see if the craving is satisfied. Sometimes the craving will represent need for some particular nutrient, known to the mother in some thing not good to eat a lot of. WE can look at the gestational periods in terms of which sense or other key development stage is happening, and plan gatherings of girlfriends, or friends in general, to enliven the particular sense. Such as in the third month, sense of sight. I'd like to open the discussion to ways to enliven the sense of sight - Im sure we can think of many...? In the 4th month, the mind begins functioning. Particularly, around experiencing past life events in the womb. Heartbeat becomes audible. It is a great time to begin communication intentions with your unborn, and to include some brahmi and perhaps arjuna also particularly if Mom has shown some weakness in the heart or high blood pressure. in tea or herbal formula for her. Also 4th month, sense of taste is under some key development... Students and practitioners of ayurveda, please join in if you have a few minutes to share your insights and wisdom. Couldn't get enough. Also I craved Taco Bell tacos. Now I think my was needing nuts, seeds, avocados and other much needed fats. My doctor had me on a diet to not gain more than 30 pounds. So I didn't and my baby was only 6-13 and I'm 5'6 " . How to listen to our own intuition is such an important thing to focus on and to teach young women.
