Ysha: I think it was you who gave me the baby's first foods suggestions, or

maybe from Young. Can you answer the question below from a mother I gave the

info to?

Vicky

" The basmatti rice water is interesting. I wonder why the water but not the

rice itself. I know that the starch from the rice ends up in the water, but I

guess it breaks the carbs down making it easier for baby to digest. "

Yes, it was me. SHe is basically quite right! It is about gentle

safe beginnings. The rice water is used first for two reasons at least -

first, ever notice how easily constipated, and of course how much more

stinky are a baby's bowels with introduction of foods?

secondly, it is much easier to deal with any allergies in dilute

state, and reverse quickly.

well, third, and expansion on above, to give gentle encouragement for

baby's digestive enzymes (for carbs in this case) to get going,

avoiding mistaken " allergy " call for overload on the digestion

creating phlegm and the incomplete products of digestion which disease

organisms feed off of making easy for Baby to come down with colds

and flu.
