Guest guest
This woman's presenting concern was severe spider dreams and daytime phobias, caused by vata toxicity from severe constipation (every few days!). The unfolding of her story (backwards here) is a valuable education in how we work, and why we take so many hours in training and internship requirements. It was a simple deduction, but years of experience went into this consult. Martha Dear Martha, I gave birth on Monday 14, Nov at 7:33 am. Labour started on Saturday evening going on through for 24hours with distances inbetween ranging from 1hour down to 4 minutes. Because I did not look at my e-mails after the one I sent you on Saturday 12, I did not do what you suggested. (small oil Basti last 2 weeks, Castor oil late delivery and fenugreek tea for support to apana vata, and bringing higher temperatures down). By Sunday night I took a hot bath - suggested by my midwife - that speeded up the labour and I stayed with 4 minutes intervals until 4:30 am on Monday morning. At 1 am Benoit and me we went to the hospital and at that time I was only dilated for 3 cm. The same at 4:30am. We decided to speed up labour by breaking the water: and then it really started! After an hour I was at 5 cm and allowed to go into the tub. Which helped me a lot! Maybe after another hour or even less (cannot remember) I was fully dilated and the pushing phase started. Our baby boy - we call him Noah Jan - was breathing from the beginning, but had mucus or other fluids in his right lung, got stressed with breathing and did not get enough oxygen. About 40 minutes after birth a pediatrician had a look at him, they took him away, gave him more oxygen, took a chest x-ray, started with antibiotics (IV) and he had to be in an incubator for the next 24hours. Of course I was concerned but trusted that everything would be alright. I called a friend in Switzerland who did some healing sessions for him and me. On Tuesday I was allowed to start to breastfeed him, but he was very tired from everything that was done to him and did not really latch on. But he did not need any more oxygen and was allowed to be with Ben and me in my room. By Wednesday he was off antibiotics but a jaundice started to develop. So he had to be put under the light in the incubator again - luckily in my room. On Friday morning we were finally allowed to take him home with us. My ayurvedic postpartum time only started by Saturday, especially what food and rest was concerned. I felt my high Vata in me and Noah. By now we both settled down a little bit, but not fully. My digestion went through diarrhea and has arrived now at a greenish colored stool. I feel like Noah with the meconium. His stool is yellow brownish since Saturday but very watery/liquid. The first few nights especially he had some heavy belly cramps. That is better but not well yet. His rest during the day is pretty fine, he drinks around every 2 to 3 1/2 hours. But at night from 11pm to 1 am he gets very active ( in late pregnancy he had the same active time in my belly) and nothing is soothing him. Afterwards he wants to be fed every hour to hour and a half until early morning. This so far - is there something special I could do? The herbs have not arrived yet - I hope they will by beginning of next week, I still have from the first supply. Of course you can put my " story " in the net for group discussions or whatever. You do not need to change my name. The water birth is very helpful and soothing with high Vata, I think. Or maybe it just helped me a lot. Please let me know again, how much money I owe you by now, meaning after your answer to this mail. Thanks for all your support and best regards Regula >Sun, 13 Nov 2005 08:48:51 -0600 > Regula, Basti now would be also good to support smooth labor and delivery. >Martha >Saturday, November 12, 2005 5:06 PM >Dear Martha, >I feel more calm and less anxious, more grounded. >But I feel quite warm almost too warm (hot feet, sweating easily) sometimes.
