Hi Richard,

I am in the same boat as you. Try taking a diuretic

for a few days and see if that helps. Your problem

could be caused by the medication you take. Also make

sure that you are not constipated.

Good advice. The best diuretic is the Kidney Formula and Tea in the Files.

These will help to handle the edema. Then you need to terminatedly handle the Diabetes by doing the Incurables program as also in the Files. Major dietary changes are also in order.

  • 4 months later...

Hi, my name is tracey, i just joined this group. i have a 10 month

old daughter named kalyani and we live in CT.

so heres my question:

She slept fine until exactly 3 months old (nursing every 2-3 hours in

the night) from 3 months up until now her sleep has gotten

progressively worse, some nights she wakes crying every 10-15

minutes, generally every 1-2 hours. i have weaned her off the

pacifier, she doesn't nurse to sleep, (although she still nurses a

lot at night). she sleeps next to me at night and in her own bed

during the day. she never stops moving (i think she has a vata body

type like me) even when she is exhausted she will still pull her self

up, babble and crawl around. nap times have also gotten worse, she

used to take 2 regular naps, now she rarely naps at all, maybe

falling asleep in exhaustion around 1 or 2 pm. i try to get her to

nap and have tried routines etc, but she will either just crawl off

the bed, cry if i try to hold her to relax or just pull herself up on

the wall and stand there whining or crying. she will not lie still

and relax.

i have tried giving her nutmeg with EBM for several weeks to no

effect. For the last few days I have tried 1/2 cap of brahmi and

ashwadhanda lunch and dinner and haven't noticed any change. i

myself have upped my calcium intake incase i am deficient. 2 days ago

i started to give her janma ghuti syrup incase she is having

digestion problems. no change yet. i have also ordered a syrup

called " mentat " which was recommended, but hasn't arrived yet.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

the only clue i have is from our family astrologer who says her

mercury is debilitated, there is excess vata and nervous tension in

the body as well as heat in the kidney. he gave some recommendations

(non medical) that we are trying to implement. (different pujas).

i also have an appointment with a homeopathic doc next week (we have

no ayurvedic docs nearby).

after 7 months of very little sleep, i feel so exhausted and every

day is very difficult to get thru...

I'm not sure what else i can do...

thank you in advance for any help the members can offer

I say teething. I have a baby too 4 months now (and an older 3 year old, so

I've been thru it recently). Similar scenario, things were going swell until a

couple weeks ago.

Look for red gums, swollen whitish " teeth buds " , runny nose, cranky etc.

My personal mantra is when it appears to be nothing else, you can blame it on

teething. It makes everything go haywire.

I may get a slap on the hand for saying this but with this particular malady,

we use tylenol when no other natural methods bring relief. only as a last

resort. I am an herbalist, that being said I know the cons of NSAIDs and the

" masking of symptoms " that cover up the " real problem " . But with teething the

real problem is that the teeth have to come in and it HURTS. Our bag of tricks

looks something like this.......

nurse

homeopathic chammomile

nurse

hylands teething tablets

nurse

peace and calming EO

nurse

Lavendar EO (on me and him)

nurse

(EOs only after the homeopathic attempts, they will interfere with the

remedies)

nurse

Warm cloth on the jaw (anytime)

nurse nurse nurse!!!

Change of scenery

Pacifier

Okay, tylenol if nothing else works.

I am sure there will be some more input from the other mamas (Adrienne, Martha

etc).

Good luck and hang in there, everytime you get used to a routine, expect them

to change it!!

hi rebecca,

thanks for your reply. she has gotten 8 teeth over the last few

months, but noticed that her symptoms have been constant since she

was three months old and don't seem to be impacted by teething,

except she might be a little more fussy during teething. its like she

has too much nervous tension and can't relax. she just won't stop

kicking, crawling, moving etc.

i have also tried the hylands cammomila, the gummomile oil for

teething (which helps) and i've tried the calm forte, but it didn't

do much (i tried it for 7 days).

this has been a constant every night for the last 7 months. it just

doesn't seem normal and i feel like i can't enjoy being a mother

because i am so exhausted (she hasn't slept longer than a 2 hour

stretch in these 7 months and rarely naps in the day)

i've also tried the no cry sleep solution book, but things actually

got worse (probably just coincidental).

my current thought is to try the tylenol to see if it makes any

difference. at least i would know if she is in pain. i'm just scared

about giving those kind of medications.

thanks again for your help

Forgive me, I did not see (or comprehend, rather) the beginning where you said

your babe was 10 months. I processed that she was 3 months now, oops!

Well at any rate, I am not sure if you are doing solids but if so, add more

ghee to everything she eats. I hear the nervous tension part, chammomile tea

for nursing mom, EO on the belly of the babe, sounds perhaps of digestive

nature??

My brain is pretty vata right now so I am going to stop here, but I'd say pull

out all the calming, relaxing moves you have in your repitiore. Oh oatstraw

(milky oats) fresh tincuture, for nursing mama (you!), magic medicine.

Bless

Dear Tracey;

The vata symptoms definitely stand out calling for attention, and I

see the wise women in our group are all gathering around this little

Kalyani with good suggestions. I agree with Adrienne, it is time to

check out craniosaccral - I'd look for someone with polarity therapy

or Jin Shin Jytsu experience with babies training in addition to the

cranio, although we have not exhaused the ayurvedic repertoire of basics.

Have you looked at the ayurvedic foods for postpartum and compared

what you were eating in those early months, or at 3 months, to the

list? (see files). It would be helpful to get a picture of your

raw/cooked, fats intake/quality/quantity including EFA3s, warm/cold

foods, freshly cooked/leftovers, protein sources/frequency, and food

combining profile, for starters ;) Are you using any chilies, garlic

or onions in your diet at this time? I'd say no to all except freshly

and gently browned garlic, for a while to support grounding, most

likely.

And what she is eating also? I take it she didn't start solids until

some time after the sleep disturbances came up ...

How often are your bowels moving and consistency? Any gas? Any pets

in the home, and while we are looking at it I would ask about any

major changes in your life or emotions at that three month mark, with

your husband, household, etc?

Do you use warmed sesame oil when you massage her, in a pre-warmed

bathroom? How does she like her bath - do you do it in the tub for

fuller immersion and play, or in a baby bathtub?

What other supplements are you taking? How much is she nursing? Nutmeg

in any quantity would be constipating, just as well it didn't work

much. Was it you or her received the brahmi? If serotonin is at

issue, that takes some time often to build up (with brahmi and the

other naturally serotenergic herbs). For grounding, often jatamamsi,

or even temporary use of tagara in a linctus would be indicated to get

you both some starter deep rest, along with some scheduled help. I

would want to discuss your doshic prakruti/vikruti and all these

things, best over the phone, and work out an herbal formula and

probably some dietary recommendations for you.

Is your husband or even a girlfriend able to handle her for a night or

three, maybe just bringing her to nurse otherwise sleeping in another

room with her (or you that way), so you can get some deeply needed

rest? You are part of Kalyani's biology, of course, and have to be

supported like this. I would make sure you had appropriate nourisment

that day and then suitable herbal and nutritional warm drink at night.

Take care to use calcium with magnesium, or even they say water

soluble magnesium alone is often best to take alone for a while first;

some sleep problems are due to mag deficiency from excess calcium

ratio. I do not know this janma ghuti syrup, or the mentat - what is

it's purpose?

It is clear your vata is challenged too, dear one. For the

debilitated mercury, it means she is having to lean on her other means

of discernment or assesment, and one would want to look at the chart

in terms of what else is going on, and if this is pitta disturbance

also. Did you have vedic/jyotish or western astrology done? It

soulnds like vedic - I'm sure the pujas are supportive, although it

will be good to support also with the physical plane correct things,

(pujas, homeopathics, etc I find energy work in general not most

lasting call when vata is really aggravated.)

While she is nursing on your breast let her fall asleep, if she were

my llittle one I would not worry now about that! AT that time you can

be doing some deeply calming and integrating alternate nostril slow,

gently full pranayama for about 5 - 10 minutes to nourish you a bit.

So now, breathe deeply, and through Divine Grace invite any needed

extra loving hands as well as the practical details, and you will be

in all of our prayers as this gets sorted out. If you would like to

get to it over the phone, you I can speak with you on Thursday at 3 or

Friday at 4, CST.

If anyone else has imput, don't consider I have said it all ...For

learning for my students' wise practice this full discussion is also

intended, you see.

Wishing you quick resolution!

Martha

Hi Martha, Thank you so much for your detailed reply. I will try to

answer all the questions :)

i have not had any time to invstigate the craniosacral therapy yet, i

will look into it tho.

i am wondering whether to cancel my naturopath appointment for next

week and use that money instead for craniosacral therapy.

It would be helpful to get a picture of your

> raw/cooked, fats intake/quality/quantity including EFA3s, warm/cold

> foods, freshly cooked/leftovers, protein sources/frequency, and food

> combining profile, for starters ;)

i don't have time to look in the files now but i will give a brief

outline of what I eat. i am following a pitta reducing diet (after

seeing an ayurvedic doc about 8 months ago) to purify my blood. i am

also taking neem, tumeric and blood cleansing supplements, as well as

a good multivitamin, calcium (with mag). we are vegetarian and eat no

meat fish eggs onion or garlic. the only spices i use for myself are

coriander, sometimes a little fresh ginger, a little cunmin seed,

cardomom and saffron. i cook everything in ghee. for breakfast i eat

warm oatmeal with cooked apple, rice milk and a litle maple syrup.

other meals are moong dal, basmati rice, steamed veges etc. i drink

one cup of warm whole milk before going to bed with chopped dates,

saffron and cardomom.

i've cut out most refined products and sugar.

> And what she is eating also?

kalyani started solids around 7 months, beginning with fruits, then

veges. she had grains just before 10 months. and then yoghurt. no

other dairy. i have not noticed any behavioural changes with

introductions of foods. she eats a few cheerios as snacks maybe 5-10

cheerios a day or less. she is not a big eater, except when it comes

to yoghurt which she loves.

I take it she didn't start solids until

> some time after the sleep disturbances came up ...

yes, the sleep problems began around june she started solids in

october.

>

> How often are your bowels moving and consistency? Any gas?

when i eat well, i have normal BM. no gas. from the lack of sleep (i

think) i have been feeling a bit nauseous, dizzy and aching tummy.

also aching arms, legs and hip and back pain. (hip pain i think is

from carrying her a lot).

Any pets

> in the home,

no

and while we are looking at it I would ask about any

> major changes in your life or emotions at that three month mark,

with

> your husband, household, etc?

the only thing that occured was that my parents came from new zealand

to visit. there have been no emotional changes, she is an only child,

the house is very quiet and peaceful, our marriage is happy.

>

> Do you use warmed sesame oil when you massage her, in a pre-warmed

yes

How does she like her bath - do you do it in the tub for

> fuller immersion and play, or in a baby bathtub?

i sit in the bathtub for her. i put some epsom salts in the bath.

she will sit and play, mostly she likes to stand up and bang on the

wall tho. (happy banging not mad) she likes the bath a lot.

>

How much is she nursing?

every hour in the night, every 2-3 hours in the day.

Was it you or her received the brahmi?

i am giving her 1/2 cap of brahmi and 1/2 cap ashwagandha after lunch

and dinner. i tried to give it to her in milk, but she will only

take it in yoghurt. (i don't really know what i'm doing here, just

trying different things out of desperation)

For grounding, often jatamamsi,

> or even temporary use of tagara in a linctus would be indicated to

get

> you both some starter deep rest, along with some scheduled help.

i am not familiar with either of these herbs, and don't know anything

about tinctures.

> Is your husband or even a girlfriend able to handle her for a night

or

> three,

it is difficult, my husband works very long hours at a stressful job,

some days he doesn't even see her at all. in the night he needs to

sleep. also, my hormones are such that if she is awake, i cannot

sleep. i might be able to try this with him at the weekend and see

if he is willing to sleep with her in another room. i am a little

worried though as he is a big guy and heavy sleeper...and she is only

10 months.

and unfortunately we don't have any friends or family nearby. the

closest is my MIL and she's in dallas. (we're in CT) and i am without

a car...

I do not know this janma ghuti syrup,

janma ghuti is for digestion, she mostly sleeps on her tummy with her

legs drawn up under her, and it also seems the more i nurse her at

night, the more she wakes crying, so i was thinking maybe some kind

of digestive problem. here is the link. its made by dabur.

http://www.eastwestbazaar.com/dabur-janma-ghunti-p-878.html

or the mentat - what is

> it's purpose?

mentat is used to help children with ADHD it apparantly helps calm

and also helps to sleep. it has valerian and other herbs

https://secure.ohmhealthcare.com/mentat-syrup-cerebral-support-200ml-

p-520.html?osCsid=f1d1f5811568f64af909cec14fab5e0b

it hasn't arrived yet, so i'm waiting for it.

the janma ghuti does not seem to make any difference after 4 days,

but i probably need to keep trying it.

Did you have vedic/jyotish or western astrology done?

vedic,

> While she is nursing on your breast let her fall asleep, if she were

> my llittle one I would not worry now about that!

i try to get her to fall asleep at the breast, but she very rarely

does. she drinks and then is ready to keep moving and crawling,

playing etc. even when she was very little, i dealt with a huge

oversupply which made her gag and choke the milk came so fast, so she

has never fallen asleep while nursing (unless exhausted). even in

the middle of the night she will finish, turn over and go back to

sleep.

talking on the phone is difficult for me, if she is awake she

requires my undivided attention, if sleeping even the slightest noise

wakes her.

is it possible that you can help me by email? if not i could arrange

on the weekend when my husband is here. i am so appreciative of your

help...you have no idea! :)

thank you from the bottom of my heart for your help martha, this

group is trully a wonderful blessing.
