Dear Kim;

Your intro is perfect, and we are all very happy to have you join

us. Please share what has doshicly and otherwise been assessed for

your situation? And Please start asking questions, it is best way

for all of us to both learn and share. Your wisdom through your

recent loss is a great gift; do allow yourself whatever time it

takes to grieve tho. I have found for many the use of the emotional

vibration essential oils are particularly valuable at this time as

well as in event of possible threatened miscarriage. Many of them

are very vata and pitta pacifying.

I'd like to share some things I learned years ago with a client who

came to me about her repeated miscarriages and desire to have

another child. As it turned out, she also had psoriasis and other

symptoms of high pitta, what I percieved instinctually and from her

history as a muddy liver and blood. The Ayurvedic physician who was

then even much more experienced at pulse diagnosis and overall

client care was nevertheless very shy to give her any herb but

shatavari when pregnant, but my training was to treat the whole and

I suppose being a woman in women's care and having worked with many

herbs during postpartum, I just selected safe appropriate herbs and

created a formula of about 10 different herbs.

Results with this client were very satisfying over time; her

psoriasis cleared up more quickly than the miscarriage problem as

she was pregnant and lost the baby before we could start on the

herbs. Difficulty concieving was also part of her problem, and my

recommendation to do a couple seasons of panchakarma was put off at

first until after she saw good herbal results, felt much better, but

still was not pregnant and asked me again if there was anything

else. She not husband did one round of pk and became pregnant right

away afterwards. I lost contadct with her during the pregnancy and

received a call at about 7.5 or 8 months when she had been on

bedrest for threaTEned miscarriage again for 1.5 - 2 month, and was

going crazy, very depressed. We used essential oils with great good

effect while she was there in the hospital on tributelene

(apparently, thank Godess, no longer in favor in this situation).

The baby was delivered I think it was 3 weeks early only, healthy

and we did several weeks postpartum care for this woman. They are a

strong vital family.

Panchakarma is the best thing most people can do for fertility

usually. Even if there are other obstacles, it should be top of the

list. This ayurvedic cleansing as you know is very different from

western herbal cleansing and fasting methods because they are based

upon herbs which scrape and dry, fasting with water and water based

preparations (juices, teas, soups, herbal administrations,

tinctures) and cleansing of the colon with things like water

soluble/based enemas and colonics.

PK (Panchakarma) on the other hand, begins for most body types with

oleation - ingestion of relatively large amounts of clarified butter

or flax oil, sending the fats into the body in quantity beyond

nutritional so that the fats, which as lipids cross cell walls

easily, go deeply in to the cells to neutralize both acids and carry

the many lipid like structures of so many medicinal, pesticide, body

care and other chemicals which are toxic to the body.

PK begins with the oleation, then there is purgation involving hefty

dose of castor oil and the ensuing flushing out of the oil soluble

toxins in the first round, including preparing the lower gi tract

for properly elimating more to come also. Then we do warm oily

massage techniques specific to body type (some are more

exfoliating/rough, others more soothing) along with herbalized steam

to loosen and move the deeply embeded impurities more. Dietary

factors support the process.

The massage is after first day, accompanied by a basti - small

herbalized enema, sometimes oil based, sometimes water based; daily

thru last day of steam and various techniques of massage. Diet is

siimplified for several days after as well, and rejuvenative herbs

which support fertility also are not taken until after the whole

process is complete and the ayurvedic physician has reassessed where

you are now .

So PK supports best quality semen and ovum both - husband and wife

should do it. There is a home pk process I have on my computer at

home, remind me if you want it with private email or maybe we have

it posted in the files?

Bleeding in excess including many miscarriages are said in Ayurveda

to be situations of very high pitta, and respond well to suitable

personalized herbal formula along with of course the dietary and

lifestyle factors. Blood and liver cleansing with the bitter herbs,

expecially, and use of the bitter and uterine specific herb ashoka

are among recommendations.

So, I will be on a little more in the next 2 weeks, and you are

welcome to contact me after that for private conversation at home.

Welcome, and much peace, good health, and comfort in the coming year.

Martha~

Thank you for the abundant reply. I completely identify with the example of

the woman you gave in your email.

My holistic practioner has assessed me as Pitta/Kapha. Infact, when you wrote:

This defines my experience to the " T " , except no psoriasis... rosaeca instead.

My doctor is a wonderful ayurvedic practioner, but was timid once I became

pregnant. Massage and acupressure/acupuncture was very akward for us both,

making me less aware, less relaxed, and more removed from the situation. I

haven't seen him since I lost the baby, but desperately need to return. I've had

a headache/earache since before the baby died (or actually it began exactly

then). It's very sinus oriented in location with no sign of infection or even

much congestion, but it is constant and very intense at times.

As for WHEN I became pregnant this last time..... we were working on cleansing

my liver. My pulse was very very very weak and he was using massage,

acupressure, and acupuncture to help. My diet was altered a bit, and I began

taking milk thistle at that time. Acupressure saved the pregnancy early on. I've

had many miscarriages that ended with a middle of the night (1 to 2 am)

" aggravation " . After three episodes in this one pregnancy (which were thwarted

by acupressure) we concluded that fats in my diet were aggravating my liver and

causing me to lose pregnancies. It was quite an amazing revealation.

I completely agree with you that Panchakarma is the right choice. I am ready

to begin, please send me the file you mentioned at your convienence. I will

check the file section to see if it is there before then. I continue taking

Milk Thistle, along with many other supplements, herbs, homeopathics, and a

medication for thyroid support . Will I need to stop taking these things when

beginning PK?

I am thankful for your offer to speak with me privately either on phone or by

email. Please email me at moonmomie once you've returned and settled

in. I look forward to hearing from you.

Peace,

Kim

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi Kim - shorties today as I'm catching up on being gone and have

client detail to attend to. Thyroid article is posted in the

perinatal supports/supplements folder (see files to the left). During

the PK, you generally discontinue all non critical supplements. If

thyroid is important, you would continue that. We can schedule after

next Tuesday if you still wish to; please call 641-472-1695.

Namaste;

Martha
