Guest guest
Hi Pearl, I didn't meet any of the profile for gall bladder disease, but I did have it at 28 years old, I had to have it removed I was so sick from it for over a year. It's one extremely painful illness, the surgery back then was more painful than the illness. ..··-.¸.-··. Guest guest
I'm interested in hearing your viewpoint about medical issues. I am not interested in hearing about your religious beliefs. The Bible is the same document that says mustard grows on trees and that you should not mix textiles in your clothing. I don't need any medical advice from the bible. --- Kathy <vanokat wrote: > > > A.G.K. Services, Inc. > God's Plan for Good Health > Ken Anderson > P.O. Guest guest
Hi all, A local childbirth educator and birth/PP doula called me to inquire about gallbladder issues. Not in her 17 years of service has she seen the spate of gallbladder attacks and stones that she is now seeing. We discussed quality of fats and fiber in the mamas' diets, and bowel transit time. I gave some western herbal suggestions for pain/spasm (Dioscorea/wild yam) and suggested mild bitters such as dandelion before meals to stimulate bile flow. (Given its cooling nature probably would be better mixed 1:1 with cardamom or ginger extract!) She mentioned the classic Liver/GB cleanse but I had been cautioned in herb school that the olive oil/citrus cleanse can actually cause a stone to become lodged in the gall duct. Anyhow most of the " stones " people think they are passing are nothing but saponified droplets of olive oil! Physiological thoughts: in pregnancy progesterone slows smooth muscle contractility, which means the gall bladder empties more slowly. Also transit time can be slowed, meaning more cholesterol can re-enter the entero-hepatic circulation. If a low-fiber diet, then less cholesterol is excreted, more re-enters circulation and can precipitate out as stones. One of my books says gallbladder issues like cholestasis are more common in multiparous women. Progesterone levels drop to zero immediately postpartum, once the placenta has been birthed. So I am very curious why such an issue would manifest AFTER the baby is born. One of my books also says elevated estrogen levels contribute, which is why women are more prone than men. It's my understanding that estrogens are relatively low postpartum as well. Rapid weight loss is also a factor in slowed bile secretion; alas I don't know any details about these mamas like their nutrition, weight, how far postpartum they are..... I'm wondering too since most stones are a blend of minerals and cholesterol, if these ladies are taking mega-calcium supplements without other minerals to balance? So many factors. I feel I am missing major pieces here--can Ayurveda enlighten? With Love and Gratitude, Adrienne
Guest guest
DEar Adrienne; Your question is very interesting and quite beyond my experience, instinct or knowledge base. I am forwarding it to Dr. Shrestha and Dr. John Cosby (not a perinatal expert, but available to me as a physician and ayurvedic doc). Perhaps there will be others able to offer insight - Hakim? I wonder also if the imbalanced mineral intake and any other newer protocols or fads can be involved. Looking forward also to answers - Martha
