Dear Students of Perinatal Ayurveda;

The following is a discussion with a client who said it is fine to

share her experiences. I share because it illustrates some wonderful

quick results. She was referred to me late pregnancy with major

difficulty sleeping, terrible spider dreams and fears, major

constipation, and living with her new husband in another country

where she lived out in the country and knows almost noone yet. She

does have some ayurvedic basic studies and spiritual practices which

made it much easier to communicate with her. If you remind me I can

share her herbals; also was advised VERY moist and oily vata reducing

foods such as for early postpartum, along with warm liquids only,

self massage, warm baths and plain sesame oil basti at pregnancy

term, and possible castor oil orally. By the time of this

discussion, she had begun her herbs and some of hte recommendations;

reported the spider dreams were gone and she was sleeping somewhat

better.

Blessings;

Martha

>Dear ,

>It is good to hear back from you. Please tell me how you feel with

>this current formula, and how your bowels are doing. Are you

feeling warm enough or too warm? Grounded, alert enough, sleeping

well enough, more calm and less anxious? How does your belly and

baby feel ... Do you feel close to delivery? And how is your overall

weight ... You are not feeling too thin or heavy?

>

>Also, Do you want to order the full 6 weeks dashmool for your

postpartum? I certainly would recommend it after the challenges you

have experienced and the chronic constipation. Keep a good supply of

fennel and fenugreek, almonds, and other such ingredients as listed

on the herbal page too?

>

>We will get this together for you next week so you have it in time.

>Kind Regards,

>Martha

Dear Martha,

I feel more calm and less anxious, more grounded.

But I feel quite warm almost too warm (hot feet, sweating easily)

sometimes.

But I felt warm before even with the Vata imbalance.

My bowels are moving but still irregularly, meaning about every

second day, but then going to the toilet is easy. I only did 2 basti

so far, but felt it helped softening.

About an hour ago, my mucus came out, smeared with blood. But within

the last 24hours I only had about 3 contractions and rather light

ones. I hope it will start within the next 24hours now. So I am quite

close to delivery it seems.

I slept much better lately, no more spider dreams. Only last night I

felt very nervous and energetic, but I guess it was connected with

the labour approaching and the mucus coming out.

I do feel alright with my weight, rather sometimes leaning to the

heavier side.

I feel good and strong. I hope this information helps.

I would like the full 6 weeks Dashmool postpartum.

I have enough ghee and sesame oil ready and a lot of different spices

and ingredients, so that Benoit can cook some delicious ayurvedic

food for me.

Thanks and best regards,

Dear

Sounds like you are doing so much better, but I am still very

concerned about the constipation, which is still in the severe

category. You will likely deliver very soon, my concern is the

downward subdosha of vata, apana prana, which governs elimination and

childbirth is not working properly and may inhibit good labor. If it

were me I would take a tablespoon of castor oil immediately, with a

strong cup of fenugreek tea (boil 1 tsp 2-3 minutes in a cup of

water). Ayurvedic physician Dr. Jay Apte, of San Francisco advised

this with another phone client of mine very effectively. This woman

had some similar problem at term, including strong upper body heat.

She said that the tea can be repeated 2 - 3 times in a day, the

castor oil in 2 days if you still are not in labor. Triphala is not

appropriate at this time, as it can disturb Baby. I would guess that

is also about stimulating possible fetal bowel movement and meconium

in the amnion.

The heat is likely from liver working overtime trying to do colon's

job burning toxins, in my opinion. As after childbirth your

digestive fires tend to go out and you will be more easily chilled, I

will not adjust those factors in your formula. In fact, it is

possible we will add some ginger to it if you are not warm enough,

but I will send the refill.

Hopefully my concerns are ungrounded and you are delivering your

bundle of bliss today! I'm SO happy to hear how you feeling well and

strong.

Many Blessings!

Martha
