Guest guest
I wanted to share with you all how our first Prana Mamas meeting went. (Susan recently posted some info about Prana Mamas.) Our meeting was held on the evening of November 9 from 7 - 9. We met at a cafe and had some herbal tea and talked about Ayurveda, perinatal & personal topics. 6 women and one little girl attended - our youngest Prana Mama. It was fun and educational. Our next meeting is December 7. In January, Sonya will be able to get us a private space, which is so nice. Here's the intro: Prana Mamas is a gathering for women who are interested in exploring wise woman traditions from the East with a focus on Ayurvedic wisdom. Ayurveda means the science of life and our subject matter is open to any number of concerns related to women's lives, health and reproductive experiences, children's health, cooking, care giving, spiritual family life and the deep feminine. " Prana " is a Sanskrit word meaning " life force " and as women, we are blessed with a powerful life-giving force - the ability to co-create life and to sustain it and enrich it. In the ancient traditions of India, all women were considered mother whether they had children or not. Mothers were greatly honored and all women were held in that light as mothers. So in our gathering of women we honor each other as givers of life. We honor each other as mothers, sisters, daughters, partners and friends, as creators of family, as nourishers of people and builders of communities. All of us, as heirs to the wisdom ways, are trying now to integrate that knowledge into our daily lives. One of our guiding concepts in developing Prana Mamas is: " Ancient Wisdom for Modern Families. " Our goal is to help women connect with each other, with ancient traditions and with local resources so they get the information and support they need as their beautiful seasons of womanhood unfold. Naturally, a deeper connection with our own selves is foundational to reaching that goal and such a community of women allows that opening to safely and joyously occur. I recently attended a perinatal Ayurvedic open house for Martha Oakes (who we will talk more about later) and I had the privilege of meeting Sonya and Susan who are Ayurdoulas practicing in the Boulder area. We felt that it would be nice if the Boulder community had a regular gathering for women interested in wise woman traditions of the East, and specifically Ayurveda, and that we'd like to help facilitate that gathering. So we created Prana Mamas ... ************************* First topic: Seasonal influence " Autumn and Winter According to Ayurveda " Second topic: Holiday stress “From Holiday Hell to Holiday Health†Open Discussion …
