Many of us have taken Karen Strange's neonatal resuscitation course and we

know what a dynamic and informed educator she is. But she has been

continuing her education about the normal physiology of the psychology of

birth from the baby's viewpoint. She has learned much from her connection

with Ray Castellino, and his Prenatal and Birth Therapy Training and Mary

Jackson, the midwife who followed Michelle Odent for 7 years and their

studies about what newborns do the seconds and minutes after their birth.

Karen has a huge amount of new information about our need to slow way down

after birth, allowing for the baby's need to make the transition from

placental respirations to pulmonary respirations, to tell his story with his

crying and his breathing, to come into his body. She says birth hasn't

completed until the baby makes his own attachment to his mom, in his own

time, a process that naturally begins somewhere between 40 or 50 minutes

after his birth, rather than being forced immediately to " bond " by

caregivers on the scene. Speakers like Karen are slowly turning us toward a

new direction of respect for newborns. This class is so much more than a

resuscitation class. Try to come, she will do the class this month if we can

get 10 people to take it. For those of you out of the area, I have included

her schedule below.
